·8 months agoI still buy from china, but only items that say in the shipping section that there will be no additional fees. Many things are no longer made in the USA, so really the choice is to buy it from the manufacturer in china or buy it from an importer in the USA. There are advantages and drawbacks to each approach.

·8 months agoI have made several recent hobby and tool purchases from China sellers, on another website.
I have not been charged any fees whatsoever, in fact shipping has been "free".
YMMV

These days I would not purchase any item from China based sellers. Not only because of the tariffs but because of the generally poor quality, misdescribed and often counterfeited items they list. They are also responsible for many of the scams on this and other sites.
Since many have registered as being located in the U.S. and give U.S, locations on their listings it can be hard to avoid them. There are ways to ferret them out and if you open the link below you can learn how to do that. Click on Go To Best Answer to learn how.

·8 months agoI would advise searching for your item within the US rather than going the China route.

·8 months agoThere are some things which are just not available from any US seller. In my case it was a hobby item for model ships. So China sourcing was my only option.
In this case the listing clearly showed that there would be no added customs costs. Went ahead and purchased the item. Arrived within 2 weeks well within the estimated delivery date without any additional cost.

It depends on how the seller is shipping. If the seller is using SpeedPAK the listing will usually say that there will be no additional tariffs on the purchase. If the seller is using another method the listing will say the buyer is responsible for tariff and customs charge. Since the de minimus exemption has been eliminated you'll pay import fees even on a $5 item.
