immediate pay on offers
Ran into a new Ebay policy that sucks.
I won an auction yesterday so I checked to see what else the seller had.
Found an item which was Buy it Now or Best Offer.
I filled out the offer but out-popped a prepay authorization requiring immediate payment for the item including shipping. That would be ok if that was the only item I was purchasing from that seller.
However, it cancels out my combined shipping for the total of the order unless the seller now credits me what Ebay took on the accepted offer and reduces the shipping on the first item.
If I see that message again, I will not send my offer through and if Ebay takes my money other than through an invoice with combined shipping from the seller, I will cancel the whole order.

·2 years agoHere is what happened to me last month (August 2023) as a buyer. $1500 in two different Best Offers both accepted on the same evening. I've been on eBay for 22 years, never have funds direct debit from my personal bank account unless I knew in advance (most of the time because of a foreign transaction). I'd not seen 'Immediate Pay' before, but it was clearly required from both my Best Offers, because submitting the offer required me to select a payment method. So that's what I did - selected Paypal Credit for both transactions. Obviously PP Credit did not get used, and instead it came from my personal bank account. I replenish that particular personal account every month to cover mortgage and planned monthly costs, so I normally keep only $1000 over & above, and never needed or required overdraft. The $1500 direct debit hit my account, but since I didn't detect the direct debit for a few days (thinking the eBay charge went to Paypal Credit), when the mortgage bounced it cost me $199 in late and return fees.
I then wasted two+ weeks dealing with eBay customer service. They admitted there was a bug in the payment software on the eBay side - yes, I too was surprised they admitted that. They apologized up and down. A supervisor came on and said I would receive correspondence from them to document my losses. When a week went by, I called again and was told they were processing some type of credit for me, there was no need to submit my proof, eBay Bucks or similar - not to worry, and I'll be receiving something in a matter of days. Another week goes by, I call again. This time they say the entire issue has been deleted from my account, there is no record of it other than the dates I made phone calls.
Really eBay? The record is deleted? I invite all people who had anything quite similar happen to them to visit donotpay.com and follow simple tutorial on the best way to submit your complaint to BBB and FTC. I'm available for a class action suit please feel free to reply here or send a message.

·2 years agoI agree 100%. I have been on here for almost 25 years buying and selling. It is one of the worst features as I don't buy from the buyers anymore bulk items in the sports card area because I get hit for shipping each time. I also don't sell anymore in bulk as people do the same thing to me. It is the worst. I wish I could express my views more than just here. All of my friends agree as well.

·2 years agoHad a similar problem. I had multiple items a seller was selling that ended close together. Of course I wanted to bid on them and the request a total after for whichever items I won. However, ebay prompted me to put in a payment method for the item before it ended. This prevents me from bidding on multiple items from the seller then requesting a total for combined shipping after. Needless to say, I didn't bid. I'm not paying a separate shipping cost for every item I win when combined shipping makes sense. Also, I don't want to have to deal with the hassle of constantly changing my payment method. I don't always pay the same way. If I can choose from several payment methods after (like it used to be) this isn't an issue.

·2 years agoI just saw this for the first time today when I went to make an offer, and because of it I didn't make the offer. I pay for different things in different ways and want to have control over how I pay. I also want to make sure Honey is turned on when I pay so that I get the bonus points. Plus I have a credit card that gives me 4% cash back on eBay but only if I link to eBay from the credit card's page to pay, and with this new payment method I wouldn't be able to do that. eBay is increasingly making it more and more difficult to shop.

·2 years agoEbay has expanded it to auction now, lol... Luckily so far I have never had this happen to me yet. I deal with many repeat sellers and some allow me up to 3 weeks to bid on items for combined shipping. To me it makes more sense for sellers to allow more time, not less. It keeps me loyal to watching and bidding all their items and even though I don't win them all I still help bid up even the ones I lose.
This policy seems like a very close-minded option. I can't imagine it helping to increase sales. Next these same sellers that think it's great will be whining that sales are down.

I have found that no matter what I get - I give up something.
Time is the commodity that I cherish. Not so much money. (The love of money is the root of all evil.)
If I can process and earn $10 profit in a half hour that is good - for me.
If the same $10 takes me two hours ... that is not good for me.
Yes, I will pass on the second opportunity.
You want to make me an offer? Good ... lemme see your money.
Then, make your offer and we either get it on .. or off ... then I can go fishing.
Will it cost me money? Sure.
Is it worth it? Yes.

·2 years agoIt’s getting where the non paying bidders and non paying best offer people are not being valued as much on here because if you bid or offer on something you better be able to pay for it or please just go away.

You can contact the seller to let them know that you would like to make an offer on an item, and would like to combine the shipping to include with the auction that you won. The seller can send you the offer, and no pre pay authorization would be needed.

·2 years agoYeah, but if they weren't going to pay then, they'll just hit the back button now. No difference. But it may keep many people from buying multiple items if they have to pay multiple shipping fees. It will be a loss of sales.

·2 years agoThe reason for this is because us sellers will 'sell' an item. Accept your 'offer', and then you don't pay ... for days. Tick, tick, tick.
The item is off the market .. nobody can buy it, or even see it.
Tick tick tick
We send messages ... 'please pay for your item.'
Nothing.
Tick, tick, tick.
"PLEASE pay for your item."
Tick, tick, tick.
FINALLY, seems like weeks, we can cancel the sale and it goes back on the market.
And (BTW) your account goes on the 'banned' list.
All of this is avoided if Ebay makes you pay as you go.
Which is the way things are in my world.

·2 years agoCombined shipping with a discounted shipping cost gives ebay less money
in fees, than multiple item purchases having individual shipping applied resulting in a greater total shipping cost .
