I'm a coin expert, there are over a dozen incorrect VERY expensive listings for one single coin...
I'm posting this for everyone as well as ebay's coins department who I'm sure has someone there who knows a little bit about coins...
I purchase a lot of coins and have been a serious coin collector for many decades, I've also been on ebay for over 25 years.
I now like to spend a little bit of my time advocating for the coin collecting communities and helping to protect the uninformed, it's just good for the hobby.
I'm accusing no listers of fraud, it is quite common for rare coins to be miss-identified for whatever reason! Trust me, it happens A LOT in the coin collecting world!!!
I also enjoy giving fun lessons to people who didn't even know they liked coins 🙂
Â
The coin is called the "Cheerios Dollar" and all but one of the listings is the genuine thing. The real one is a verifiable graded coin with an appropriate price of thousands dollars.
Â
It happens to be INCREDIBLY simple to know if a Cheerios Dollar is authentic as long as there is a photo.
Although there is one hilarious listing right now for $25,000 with no photos, so best of luck with a coin collector willing to spend that lol!
Â
I want ebay to have this info because it's so simple...
Â
The Cheerios dollar is an early release of the first year Sacagawea U.S. dollar coin which was actually given away in Cheerios boxes to announce the newest U.S. coin.
Â
To be the Cheerios dollar:
It MUST be a 2000-PÂ and only the P! (P is the Philadelphia Mint)
The tail feathers on the eagle are VERY different from the normal dollar design and it's totally obvious.
The Cheerios tail feathers have extra details at an angle.
ALL other Sacagawea dollars have feathers with horizontal details only.
Now you are all experts, including ebay 🙂
I am sorry that I don't have time to go communicate with all those sellers to explain why their listings are actually blatantly incorrect.
Â
Hope that was fun too 🙂
There is also a Cheerios Lincoln penny, but it doesn't have the kind of price or problems of the genuinely rare and expensive Cheerios Dolllar.
