I thought Auto-pay was all or nothing
I don't know if this is a glitch or if ebays fiddling around with something.
Over the past month I've noticed with a few different sellers that auto-pay shows up on some items and off on other items.
Just this past week a seller I often buy from that normally doesn't use auto-pay , the the first 4 items I won didn't have auto-pay and the next 4 items did. This happened 2 weeks earlier with them also, I know they're not toggling it on and off.
Another seller who I've bought from for years and uses the 7 day auto-pay for about a year now, I noticed items I won about a month didn't have auto-pay all of a sudden, so I was able to bid for longer than 7 days like before they started using it. Now it's showing up again
And tonight i was checking a sellers auctions, I was interested in 4 items , when I tested for auto-pay, 2 of the auctions had no auto-pay, and the other 2 had auto-pay within 1-hour. I not even gonna bother messaging the seller because that never goes well, so I'll just pass on bidding since the one hour auto-pay makes it too stressful to get combined shipping.
Anyone else seeing this?

What triggers the 7 day extended shopping period for Sellers is when they have Auto-pay turned ON for Auctions AND Combined shipping is ON. If a Buyer WINS an auction the 7 day extended shopping is activated. The Buyer can pay immediately if they want to but the extension means they have 7 days to pay. eBay's idea is that a Buyer would want to shop more from that Seller in hopes of taking advantage of Combined shipping. That's their thought process anyway.
There are two Auto-pay settings, one for Auctions and one for Offers.

FWIW I saw something similar the other day. I was looking at auction listings from a particular seller. The first few did not require auto-pay. Then I clicked on one that produced the pop-up screen to enter my payment source. I backed out of that one and continued on, bidding on others that did not require auto pay.
Farther on down the list I see a duplicate listing to the one that apparently required auto-pay. It had the same title, same description, same photos, same everything, but I didn't think to compare item numbers. This one did not require auto-pay. This one had quite a few bids, the auto-pay version of the same product had ONE. LOL..
I just figured maybe eBay changed the rules while we were all asleep and didn't bother to tell anyone.
Later in the day, the duplicate without auto-pay was apparently removed, leaving the auto-pay version only. It was rather high priced so I figured it was something "new" going on, too. Next time I suppose I should take screen shots.
The other responders here gave plausible explanations. Me, before my morning coffee, just wrote it off as "todays glitch, is tomorrow's policy" eBay thing.

I was going to post the same thing @jonathanbrightlight did but he beat me to it. You may want to ask the seller you have bought from before if they made a change and didn't disable auto pay.

·1 year agoThe settings that control autopay are for a seller’s account, not individual listings, but there is a checkbox just under those settings that applies them to existing listings. If they changed their autopay settings, but didn’t check that box, their existing listings would be unaffected but all their new listings would be. So if they had autopay on, all their existing listings would still have autopay, but their new ones would not, or vice versa.

OP1 year agoIs this something new? Since auto-pay started I've never seen this before. Now within a month I'm noticing it many times with different sellers. I find it hard to swallow these sellers are changing the setting so often.

·1 year agoI don’t think they’re changing it often. I think more sellers have made a change since the new autopay rules went into place, and since we only see people post here when they have problems, it just seems more common.
