I think I’m being scammed….
I’m new to eBay and purchased a special needs car seat for my daughter for $550 with my credit card. Looking back, the seller has a fake review, there is no picture of the actual product, and it is a little too good to be true. All I saw was 100% positive and “money-back guarantee.†Can’t sleep now because I know what I did was stupid, but I didn’t know about all the various eBay scams until I researched after the purchase. I got a little too excited in the moment. I can’t cancel the order anymore. Is there anything I can do now to see if this is a scam or do I wait until after the expected shipping date of 2/28 to do anything? (Still crossing fingers I get the product, but there are a lot of warning signs I only now notice).

·2 years agoI looked at that one feedback they have and it's not gibberish and is a feedback as a buyer so of course they have 100% feedback.
Listing looks very sketchy to me

·2 years agoYou used a credit card so you have that protection too. You will have to wait and see if it arrives. The fake tracking number scam is the biggest worry. That is where a cheap item is sent to the same zip code as yours. That is good enough for eBay to think it was delivered.
If that does happen you have to get a letter an email will do from the shipper saying that tracking number did not go to your address. You will know that happened if it says delivered and no package arrived.
The fact you used a credit card is a big help to you. Good thing you did.

OP2 years agoThankfully my zip code applies too my about 500 homes and most of them are on the local Facebook page. Still crossing fingers all will actually be legit.

·2 years agoSounds like it was a purchase not of eBay. Cannot post something without a photo as far as I know.
Fake review sounds like something of another website.

·2 years agoThe photo could be a stock photo or a photo of something else, like coming soon. Ebay requires a photo but some sellers provide a useless photo and Ebay does not catch it.

·2 years agoImagine the buyer wanting to return an item not as described...because it doesn't match the photo in the listing. LOL.

OP2 years agoI should clarify it was a stock photo off a website.

OP2 years agoI should clarify that it was a stock photo.

·2 years agoYes you can. People use stock photos all the time see item number 355465678599 from a ZERO feedback seller as an example.

·2 years agoThere was no picture of the actual product? And the seller has a "fake review"?
Missed that information the first time around. Can you explain those statements?
And perhaps share an item #?

OP2 years agoI should clarify that they used a stock photo and the review was just a bunch of gibberish, but it said 100% positive.

·2 years ago@momof41783645,
"Thank you for responding. I made the purchase on 2/19 and the expected delivery is through Fed Ex by 2/28. I'm hopeful that everything will turn out positively"!
Because of what you wrote originally, " there is no picture of the actual product, and it is a little too good to be true". I think your biggest worry will be FedEx tracking having a Delivered scan, but nothing will be received. If that happens come back to this board, before doing anything. Post a topic saying "FedEx tracking says Delivered, but I didn't receive anything". We can tell you what to do if that happens. The usual ebay MBG process doesn't work on the first try, with fake tracking issues but can be resolved.

OP2 years agoThank you very much for your response. So far nothing has been shipped.

·2 years ago@momof41783645,
When did you make the purchase, and what is the last estimated delivery date? Go to your purchase history and click on the Order details button the last estimated delivery date is there. You cannot take any action through ebay until that date has passed. Then you can file an Item Not Received (INR) dispute, by clicking on the More actions button to the right of the listing title, on your purchase history page. The same time frame posted in the last reply applies. If the seller doesn't reply with proof of shipment, or issue a refund within 96 hours ask ebay to step in.
Since you have (0) feedback, if you bought the item as a guest, the listing will not show in your purchase history. You were sent an email with the title Order Confirmed to the email . If you do not have one, check your email account's junk, business or spam folders, it may be in one of them. There will be instructions in it that tells you how to report an item not received or as described.
"All I saw was 100% positive and “money-back guarantee.†... it is a little too good to be true... I got a little too excited in the moment".
On a listing page, where you see the Money Back Guarantee (MBG) mentioned click on the Learn more button to see the terms and time frames of the MBG. save or book mark the link for future use.
Never get excited about a very good or too good to be true price, when you see one. Scammers count on people not using their common sense when they see a low price.

·2 years agoAssuming this purchase was actually on eBay, you need to relax because you are well protected by eBay's Money Back Guarantee for buyers.
If the item, when you receive it, is not exactly as it was described to you, you have 30 days after receipt to open an item not as described case. The seller will be required to send you a prepaid return label and to refund in full when he receives the item back. After you open the case, if you don't hear from the seller within 96 hours, you have to contact eBay and you will be refunded from the seller's money and told you don't need to return it.
ALL eBay buyers need to make themselves familiar with the MBG so that they will know what to do if/when a transaction goes wrong.

@soh.maryl
That is only true UNLESS the seller engages in the "fake tracking" scam. Then all MBG assistance will generally result in a giant FAIL.
@momof41783645
Do come back here if there should be any sort of "recorded delivery" "tracking shows delivered" and you receive nothing. You will be given options other than filing "item not received" that will, due to the automation of the eBay process, will result in denial of your claim.
