I recently asked an individual why he had not shipped my purchase within three days .... As stated in EBAY policy . I always pay within hours of a purchase if it is not an automated payment . The request was quite civilized. His answer? He canceled the order and refunded the amount. Rather childish. Besides no big deal there are zillions of other opportunities, and I have already taken advantage of such. It is just a sad event. Ego cancels a good sense of business.

·11 months agoI attempted in an earlier message to explain what might have been going on with the seller, and why they could have reacted the way they did. Now I’ll share a personal story. I’ve had problems this year with 1) not receiving notifications of items sold, and 2) “ghost listingsâ€, where a sold listing fails to move from active to sold listings. When that happens, i don’t know until. I either 1) see the buyers payment hit my account, or 2) get a message from the buyer asking about their purchase. Depending on other factors, and how the buyer asked the question, I can see myself possibly cancelling a sale.

When you purchased the item, did you check to see what the seller's handling time was?
Did you look to see if a tracking number was provided?
When you contacted him, did you tell him that eBay's policy is that he has to ship within 3 days? He would only have to ship in 3 business days if he stated that was his handling time.
Some sellers are sensitive to questions being asked and assume if a buyer asks questions, they are being overly picky. If he didn't ship, we don't know why. Maybe he thought you were going to harass him about shipping, maybe he was out of stock, who knows. It would have been nice if he has soothed your ruffled feathers, but he didn't. For whatever reason, he decided he didn't want to ship the order and I'm guessing that he put in the cancellation that you asked him to cancel rather than giving another reason.

·11 months ago@justilavesper_0 ,
If the seller had a 3 day handling time posted in their listing, it will usually state "Will usually ship within 3 Business days... " That time frame can depend on what time of day in the seller's time zone you sent the payment.
If it was after 5pm, the time frame would start the next day. If you bought the item on a Thursday night after 5pm. The seller would have until Tuesday to ship because ebay does not count Saturday, Sunday, National or postal holidays as Business days.
On a listing page to the right of the Shipping: cost, service there is a See details button that when clicked on can give you more info. On the pop up that opens the seller's handling time is given but there is also a Learn more button, that will give you additional info about Handling times, that maybe you should read.
Did you check your seller's feedback profile before buying from them? If they had a low feedback number, they could be a new seller, or one who hasn't sold in a long time, who ran into ebay's 21-30 day hold that is placed on new or returning seller's payments and they don't know how to deal with it.
On their account the payment status shows Pending, so they may not think the funds have cleared yet. Those seller's could have a fair number of feedback and even a 100% rating, but all or mostly for buying not selling. If the seller did run into the hold it's possible they took your question about shipping as an attempt to scam them, and that's why they cancelled.

·11 months agoI do not consider the seller's response as appropriate
Good seller customer service will help encourage buyers to remain active on ebay

·11 months agoWhat is the handling time stated for this item listing? The seller sets their handling time in their listing and suppose to follow it.

·11 months agoWas it 3 business days?...or did seller have 5 business days to ship?...there are different shipping dates of sellers to ship.
Yelp...that would make a seller sometimes cancel the sale even if it hurts the seller.
Seller might have thought you are...not saying you are...a 'drama buyer'.

·11 months agoWhat was Sellers shipping time in the Listing? I have mine set up for 3 days, but can go up to 40 days if I choose to.
Did you Buy on Thursday, Friday and expect shipping no later than Sunday? Doesn't work like that. Starting this conversation today, SUNDAY, I'm guessing this is exactly what happened.
Give us more context, then we'll be able to understand more, form a better opinion as to who was in the right, who was in the wrong.

·11 months agoSellers do not have to ship within 3 days...what was their handling time?

·11 months agoeBay allows sellers to choose a handling time between 0 and 40 days. eBay only requires that the seller ship within whichever handling time they chose for the listing. There is no blanket policy that ALL sellers must ship within 3 days.
Also, most eBay sellers are individuals, and you don’t know what they might have been going through. Maybe they had a 3 day handling time, but on the third day they just spent that day at the emergency room with their kid, and your message felt like the straw that broke the camels back, so in frustration they cancelled the order. You just never know what really happened.

·11 months agoThere is no eBay policy requiring sellers to ship within 3 days. If you are telling sellers that , I can see how they may react by cancelling. Sellers are required to ship within their handling time stated in the listing. Now, if the seller stated that they will ship within 3 days and didn't, that's a different matter.

·11 months agoNobody really knows what the seller is going through all that should be cared about is that they haven't shipped for 3 days and your expectation was sooner. They did you a favor by canceling the deal so you can then buy from someone else who ships immediately or next business day.
soh.maryl
·11 months agoExpectations and requirements are two different things.
We don't know if the seller told the OP he'd ship within 3 days or if the OP just thought that should happen.

OP11 months agoWell when someone cancels a sale instead of just providing a civilized response it is quite evident of " what the seller is going through " . Anger. Misguided. How does " They did you a favor by canceling the deal " have anything to do with not receiving an item that I found pleasing, that cannot be duplicated? lucky me........................
buyselljack2016
·11 months agoEither seller had 3 day handling and failed to meet that, or they did not have 3 day handling and were being "questioned" (not unreasonably) and chose to quietly bail out of the sale to prevent any more of an issue.
Seller most likely got an account "defect" for the cancel action.

·11 months agoI’m making a comment about how since your posting history consists mainly in deeming people “low intellect†for a sundry of reasons, usually non related to a person’s intellect, I would take your input with a grain of salt.
If I were to make a statement, I would say actually smarter than average people don’t need to go around telling strangers they’re dumb, especially in such a niche setting as an e-commerce platform’s self help discussion boards. Very déclassé.

·11 months agoSellers are supposed to ship within the time they gave when creating the listing. eBay does give the sellers a ding for late shipping and too much of it can get them suspended from selling.
While all sellers should ship on time, many are not a full time business. You do have to allow a bit of slack when buying in venues like this. I do understand when it's an item you need right away.

·11 months agoYou remind me one of my tenants… to be more specific, former tenants..her excuse not paying rent on time was due to her traveling..part time business on eBay does NOT justify violating terms of listing..without business ethics nothing can be achieved especially when competition involved…
justilavesper_0
OP11 months agoHow does " excuse not paying rent on time " have anything to do with a timely paid transaction not being carried out because someone's feeling got hurt ??
It is simply amazing of the amount of the thinly veiled insults received by my simple posts. Most involving "well what about this ?" I was simply voicing an opinion about an Ebay policy . And the nature of the cancelation of a transaction already completely simply because of " well I ll show you , you are not gonna get what you want " i ran a business for a very long time and my guideline was " The customer is always right , and when they are wrong, they are double right " When someone lets their lil bruised ego get in the way of a successful sale it is rather sad .
hotwheelsbum
·11 months agoNo you were not "voicing an opinion" about an ebay policy. You were misquoting, misinformed, confused about an ebay policy. And, still have not shared with us pertinent questions that would help us understand why the Seller took the action they did.
2 Best Questions are:
What did Seller have as his shipping time in the listing?
When did you order and how much time(business days) had passed when you questioned Seller?
Answer those 2 questions, and you, WE, may realize who is in the right, who is in the wrong.

@msha3839 wasn't even replying to you... they were replying to @simba6. If you're finding nearly every post on here to be a personal insult, you must be awfully thin skinned. I would venture to guess that your responses on this thread have earned you a spot on many a seller's BBL.

·11 months agoWhat Ebay policy?
I don't know of any that says the seller has to ship in 3 days.
They do have to ship within the handling time they chose, which could be anywhere from same day shipping to 30 days.
soh.maryl
·11 months agoHowever, as a general rule, if it's an item you need right away, buying online might not be your wisest choice.

·11 months agoSo there's an eBay requirement that a purchase has to be shipped within 3 days?
Personally, as long as my item arrives within a few days of its last estimated delivery date, I don't worry about how fast it was shipped. Guess there's something wrong with me (not exactly news).

OP11 months agothank you for the thinly veiled insult Kudos to you ! I never said anything about arrival ..... My post was about initiate the shipment . The beginning not the end " Guess there's something wrong with me (not exactly news). "
Nope, I was just voicing an opinion . No error there .
