I received a bunch of extra items from the seller
Recently I won a bid on a lot of 2 diecast cars with reasonable shipping cost. Today I got a very, very large, heavy package (easily 10 pounds) filled with diecast cars, 7 in total.
Now, I am not complaining - somehow, NONE of the cars I received in this massive package are already in my collection and all are in mint shape.
I am not sure what happened here. Between what I paid for the items and shipping cost calculated based on 2 cars, I am sure the seller overpaid and lost money on this (even if they got the cars for free somehow).
I would like to make it right somehow, but not sure what to do. Is there an option to pay some additional money to the seller and keep them? I certainly don't feel like hauling the box back to the post office (I don't have a car), so this would be the preferable option. I feel like if the seller offers a return label for the 5 extra cars, they'll be losing a lot of money on something they might already be breaking even (my bid won at $1).
I am not even sure how this mishap happened - I checked their completed listings and this was the only one that's with diecast cars. They don't have any more diecast cars listed right now. So it's not like this was a mistake in "combined shipping" (someone else won the 5 remaining cars and all was sent to me by mistake).
I don't want to open an IND claim, as the 2 cars are, in fact, as described. I double checked the original listing and it only mentions two cars (in description and pics).
What should I do?

OP2 years agoSo, the seller answered that he found the additional cars after he listed the ones I bought and that he's getting rid of a relative's collection and to enjoy. I'm still glad that I messaged just to verify if it was an error or intentional. I tried to clarify about the cost, but he didn't respond to that particular question.
I think the case might be that the seller needed to quickly get rid of some items after a relative, with little regard to making money off the sale (the items might end up being donated or in a trash if someone didn't "buy" them). I unpacked the box when my friend was here and he said it seems like a flat rate box so it doesn't matter how heavy it is, still costs the same.
So it's all good I think. I left positive feedback about the items originally mentioned in the listing but didn't mention any of the extra of course. I think it's a one off situation and I don't want other buyers to think this seller is giving out free items habitually.

·2 years agoCould be just a simple case of packing in selling and having a clear out.
Though if I did that I would have put some sort of note in the package.

·2 years agoI suspect you received a different buyer's order and he got yours.
You can cross check this by looking at the seller's Sold items on the left of his active listings page.
Then look for your actual order and the one you received.
The seller should be paying for all the reshipping. You get brownie points for helping him and another collector. Because you are a Good Person and doing the Right Thing.

OP2 years agoI already looked at his both sold and active listings, this is the only listing with cars...and two of the 7 cars I got are what was being sold to me.
Anyway, I asked the seller if it was sent by mistake.

·2 years agoFYI: If this turns out to be an error, and the seller wants the cars back instead of $$ for them, you can schedule a USPS pickup for free if the seller provides a prepaid USPS label.

·2 years agoSend a message to the seller to find out if they intentionally send you that many cars or if it was an error. Go from there.
