I need to cancel an apparent fake product, fake MegaRAID 9380-8e
I just bought this server hard disk card:
It is supposed to be MegaRAID 9380, but the photo shows Promise SuperTrak, which is a card that will not have any of the advanced capabilities of the card I need. Promise is an old card that just won't have any advanced MegaRAID functionality for datacenter drives like Western Digital DC HD530 WUH721414ALE6L4 to take them out of failed/unreadable/offline state.

I want to cancel this transaction, but the seller seems to not accept messages, and when trying to return it, it says:
It's too early to start a return
You can start a return on Apr 17.
It also says:
Cancel order (1)
Can I cancel my order?

Do I need to wait until then and receive the card just to see that it actually is a con, and that it is a card that won't help me in anything?
Can I cancel this transaction from OEMConnect if it was just posted to the mail?
I will have to contact the bank to revert this transaction and just let this package abandoned from now in the mail if I cannot get a full refund otherwise, and forget about this server disk card that is basically just useless for anyone.

·1 year agoI see what you're saying. The box advertises one product, but the card inside is labeled as a different product.
Regardless, you have to wait for the package to arrive, then you can file a return request.
Also, I do not think this is a "con," just seller error. They sell preowned computers and electronics. They probably listed based on product packaging without verifying the card inside matched the packaging. Seller should definitely be more careful, but it's an easy mistake to make.

OP1 year agoMegaRAID 9380-8e is a very specialized card you could only get to know after a lot of experimentation with hardware, and reviewing official compatibility matrix documents for datacenter drives. The seller could not have the box and a cheap card on it without being a con.
It is not possible for someone to have such a high-end SCSI SAS/SATA card for no reason and believe they mistaken it for a cheap extremely old/limited SuperTrack. It is a fake product.
I think that if eBay, or more exactly, the "no refunds accepted" policy of the seller to force others to accept products that will surely end up being fake, does not let me refund, I will have to sort it out with the bank, at least let them know about a case of a fake product and whether they can refund me from a genuinely fraudulent transaction, since the card is protected from such abuse by the bank on the notice of the holder.
I hope that this notice serves like a valid way to register that I have tried to use eBay's system to resolve this issue. It says that I can start the refund process tomorrow, so I will try with eBay and also alert the bank system about this fraudulent transaction and whether they can revert it or not, given that I spotted that I will surely receive a fake product (an invalid product different from what I asked).

·1 year agoLooks like the seller gets lots of used computers and parts, so they may not have been familiar enough with that card. It's also not in a seller's best interest to intentionally misrepresent an item as it will harm their account when the buyer inevitably files a return request saying there was a problem with the item.
Either way, the seller's "no returns" policy does not apply here. That's for remorse returns (like changing your mind). In this case eBay's Money Back Guarantee will apply.
If what you receive is what's shown in photos - a card that clearly does not match the packaging or the listing information - you can file a return request with the reason item does not match description and the seller will have to provide a prepaid label if they want the item back. If they don't do that within I think it's 3 days, you will be able to select an option to ask eBay to step in.
It's all straightforward and mostly automated. Super easy. Just follow the process, return the item, and you'll get your refund. At least it's not expensive.
I suggest not filing a return request until after you receive the product. Once you file, you'll have a limited window to return and you don't want that clock to start before you have the item in hand.
Wait until you get the item as you'll be required to add photos to the return. Take pictures showing box and item inside box are different. I'd probably take that last photo from the seller's listing and circle where it shows a different product name, then upload that as well.
There's no need to go to your bank to file a dispute. Easy, straightforward process here on eBay.

·1 year agoALL eBay buyers, as well as ALL eBay sellers need to read the MBG, hopefully BEFORE beginning to buy or sell here. The catch is that you need to read it, understand it, and use it correctly.
If what you receive is not as described, you can open an NAD case and be refunded.
