I just got scammed by a seller and ebay is refusing to help
A week ago i bought an 'open box' xbox series x for a relatively cheap price from an account with 7 feedback. After about 5 days the item was never shipped and so i decided to message the seller and try to cancel the order. The seller never responded but provided a tracking number. After 2 days the tracking number was never updated to show as being shipped or picked up. Fearing that it might be a fake tracking number I tried to cancel it again and it ended up starting a return. On the return it gave 2 options on how to pay return shipping but i never clicked on any option and decided to close out of the page. However the return was then started and the seller only sent a partial refund, pocketing $45 worth of shipping money. They never shipped the item and provided a fake tracking number but ebay is refusing to help me. Every time i try to contact support regarding the item it says decision final, cant be appealed.

Did you actually check the seller's feedback profile page? If not open the listing from your purchase history, scroll down the page to where you see the seller's username in a large font, below that will be a couple of feedback comments then an oval with See all feedback that is a button click on it to see the seller's profile page.
Chances are what yo will find is that the seller has no feedback for selling only buying. Because of that as a new seller they probably do not know that all new sellers and those who have not sold anything in over a year, will have a 21 day hold placed on their first few payments, and they do not know how to deal with it.
When this happens the seller sees the payment status marked as pending on their account, and do not think the payment has cleared. Therefore, they may not reply to messages or make up excuses. They may also consider messages about shipping as being an attempt to scam them somehow. When you filed the dispute they may have uploaded the tracking hoping the payment would clear and they could ship.
If you would still rather get the item rather than a refund, try messaging the seller again, and tell them if they have not shipped the item because of the payment status being Pending, to do a google search for
"Payments on hold - ebay". If they do the search they will find out what to do to complete the transaction, and get the funds released sooner.
In the future always check the feedback profile of any seller you intend to buy from, no matter what their feedback percentage is. Some sellers may have a fair number of feedback and a 100% rating, but it could all be for buying, not selling at all or in the last year. Just one of the reasons to check feedback profiles.

·2 years agoIf item has not been received or does not shows delivered...I wonder how you were able to do anything.
There is an estimated date of arrival or if item arrived before a buyer can do anything...I just wonder how you managed to do anything.
Anyway, at least you got some type of refund.
How eBay pocketed $45. shipping is rather strange since tracking was not showing up.

·2 years agoHave you considered doing a chargeback on your credit card?
And, BTW, it would be a good idea for you to re-read eBay's Money Back Guarantee for buyers.

If there is a next time, come by here 1st before opening a Item Not Received case or a Return case and folks will walk you thru it.

OP2 years agoYou guys are right it was my mistake to open the return i guess i just wasnt thinking straight because i was getting too stressed out over the situation. Losing this 45 really hurts though 😢

·2 years agoYes, I can understand that. I wouldn't be happy either. However, in the end it is a learning experience, and you can now work on finding a way to save another $45 to make up for it. Think positively that you will find another Xbox for a great price. Try to focus on other happier areas and concentrate on other tasks. This too shall pass. Best of luck to you....

·2 years agoYou can't really start a return on something you never received. The proper case would have been INAD (item not received). This is assuming that ebay's estimated delivery date has passed. Did the seller have extended handling time in the listing?

·2 years agoI'm sorry for your loss of money but unfortunately you failed to follow the policies. This platform offers all buyers a money back guarantee, but one has to follow the rules and procedures for it to apply. For future reference, all you needed to do was wait for the estimated date of arrival to pass by one day. Then you could have opened an item not received case, which would have closed in your favor for a full refund. The returns process is completely automated due to the number of daily transactions. Only the seller can cancel a paid transaction, not the buyer. Sometimes our mistakes can cost us a little, but the important part is we learn from them and better understand how the system works. Best of luck to you....
