I Don't Need 500 E-Mails Demanding Payment When Seller & I Have Arrangement
Summary: comic-sutra expressed frustration over receiving numerous emails from eBay about unpaid items, despite having an arrangement with the seller for combined shipping. They reported receiving 74 emails for a single item and were told by eBay support that these were spoof emails, which comic-sutra found hard to believe. bjbint agreed, sharing their own frustrations with receiving payment reminders and concerns about autopay. mudshark61369 clarified that the autopay notice was part of eBay's Pay in 7 option, meant to facilitate combined shipping deals. krazzykats suggested turning off certain communications, but comic-sutra felt the issue was beyond buyer control.
Recently, eBay has taken to sending multiple e-mails, all day, every day, for "unpaid items." Now, keep in mind, if a SELLER has no problem holding an item for combined shipping...especially if it's a seller you've done business with every week for YEARS...and eBay has algorithms in place ENCOURAGING more practices...then I really don't need 20+ e-mails every day for an item the seller has already agreed to hold.
I have received...for one outstanding item, mind you...SEVENTY-FOUR e-mails demanding payment. 74. So far.
When I called eBay about it, I was told, breathlessly, by a friendly guy in Manila, that those were "spoof" e-mails, and they "didn't come from eBay."
Of course, that was absolutely absurd, because scammers don't A. identify me by name AND B. identify the item AND C. identify the seller. Obviously, these e-mails come from eBay. And I don't need SEVENTY-FOUR (and counting!) e-mails demanding/threatening/cajoling me.
Get it together, eBay. For crying out loud.

You can make all of the payment arrangements you want with a seller but ebay doesn't know about them, and a seller cannot override ebay's payments policy with one of their own.
If you opened the link provided by krazzykats, you saw the Seller's message options, and the
on/off button for the "If your buyer hasn't paid after a couple of days" was in the on position. If they turn it off it is turned off for all of their auctions. Are you sure that you received 74 messages for just one item? Maybe some of them were follow ups posted when you won more items from that seller reminding you that you still had an open transaction.

If you called a number you found online for ebay, you never spoke to anyone connected with ebay at all. eBay's direct customer service phone number was shut down in 2020 when the Corona virus struck. Now you have to use the Contact Us option under the Help & Contact header at the bottom of every ebay page, and arrange to receive a call back from C.S.. Even then the 3rd party customer service reps you speak with, can do nothing to change ebay's policies. Don't blame ebay, blame the Non paying bidder/buyers for that.

"I went to bid and got threatened that it will go to autopay in 7 days if I don't pay".
Actually it not a threat, it is a note letting you know that you have been accepted into eBay's Pay in 7 option, which means you can bid on the seller's items for up to 7 days from winning the first auction without having to pay. The 7 day period starts the second you win the first auction and ends at the same time 7 days later. It makes getting a combined shipping invoice from a seller much easier.
"I pay everything on-time and I am being punished for the thousands of delinquent buyers that don't pay".
All of us who pay for our auction wins on time are punished for the delinquent buyers, but ebay had to do something about it.
