    How to report a scam

    Hello. I see no good way to reporrt a scam listing.

    Is a scam. It has been listed multiple times. Always with a first time seller. Always in a different part of the country. I tried to contact the seller when the seller was supposed to be a car dealer in Florida. Then I knew it was a scam. That was 3 or 4 re-listings ago. I reported it before but nothing was done.

    @buye-1169,

    Using the report item button would not work, since the listing itself doesn't seem to violate any rules.

    To possibly get it pulled, save a few screen shots of the listings and wait for it to get relisted. Then report it to ebay via their Facebook and Twitter social media sites.  You will need the 2 item numbers and seller's usernames. write about what you have seen in the past. sign the note with your real and ebay username.   It may show up again though.

    I'll bet the scammers even have it listed on Craigs List supposedly with eBay buuer protections.

    If you've reported it, that's all you can do.

    Since bids on eBay Motors are non-binding, people can order inspections, people have to pick up the car, and so on, how exactly can anyone  "scammed," by the way as along as they keep the transaction on eBay?   Just curious.  Not doubting you.  Just curious.

    Probably because they do a wire transfer or send a check to make the payment. And expect to have it shipped. The scammer will not do an in person sale. They will look for a remote buyer. The buyer expects the eBay guarantee to be valid. But I doubt eBay ever honers that. The payment is not done via escrow through eBay. So eBay has no way to know the payment was made. The seller will not be able to be found afterwards.

    Just a brief comment about the "eBay guarantee".

    Are you aware that eBay's Money Back Guarantee for buyers doesn't apply to motor vehicle sales on eBay for several reasons.  On eBay, car sales, unlike those for other tangibles, are non-binding for either party.  That means either seller or buyer can decide not to complete the sale, no harm, no foul.

    If/when you are shopping for a car here, do further research about how the sale should work.
