How to register as tax exempt on E-bay
Trying to figure out how to register my business as tax exempt on E-bay. Bought some scrap silver the other day and because it was not listed in the coins/bullion catagory I was charged tax even tho it was obviously scrap bullion.. Thanks Dach.

If you have a business with a resale permit, you can designate an entire eBay account as tax exempt by supplying your state document to eBay. That means all purchases on that account will be exempt, so it should only be applied to an eBay account that is set aside for that purpose.

If this issue only applies to a seller's categorization of an item, you will need to talk to customer support and ask for someone in the sales tax department. Scroll to the bottom of the above-linked page and either select the callback option, or click the chat option and type "agent" into the chat to talk to a human. Be sure to read your own state's definition of what is classified as nontaxable bullion. Some do not allow any embellishments, fittings, or bezels.
