How is the buyer protection for cars?
Hi, has anyone dealt with the Buyer Protection for a car?
Was it any good? Did they respond quickly and did they communicate well?
The fact that I cannot call or chat with anyone at ebay to ask isn't a good sign.
What year is this?

If this is your first attempt at buying a car online then you need to take care. eBay's Vehicle Protection Program VPP which @kathiec posted a link to, is limited in its coverage. Even if the car in question is being offered by a local dealer/seller, inspection by someone qualified to do that, is key to not running into issues later on. If the car is to far from your location to inspect it yourself, there are vehicle inspection services available. The services may cost a few hundred, but could save you thousands, later on. If the seller requires a deposit, the first thing to ask is if it is refundable if the car doesn't pass your inspection?
Since there are many online scams out there, keep an eye out for these indications.
A vehicle listed with a low price, along with some sort of sob story, military deployment, need money for an illness, divorce, death of a loved one...
If the vehicle is listed on another site saying it is at an eBay facility, will be covered by ebay's VPP, shipped for free with a 5 day inspection period. SCAM! Any documentation from, or phone number to ebay will be fake.
Any seller asking you to buy gift cards of any kind to make payments should cause you to cease communications.

·2 years agoYour supposed to inspect it before paying. So, auto sales are non binding and either party can just walk away for any reason. The protection for auto sales is very limited. Not at all like other items sold on eBay. You must inspect before you pay.
Also, it must be listed on eBay to be an eBay sale. eBay never assists with sales or payments of items on other sites. If you found it on another site, it's a SCAM.
You don't pay with gift cards ever.

·2 years agoI'm not sure why you feel you need to speak with someone. Sales on eBay Motors are covered by their Vehicle Purchase Protection, the complete details of which can be found here.
The most important aspect of VPP is that it conforms to the 'as is' laws governing vehicle sales in most states. Thus if you choose to buy a vehicle without inspecting it first you're quite likely to be on your own.

·2 years agoI wouldn't buy a vehicle without seeing it, checking it out and test driving it first.

Make sure any car you're looking at is actually listed ON EBAY and not on some other website where the scamming seller claims that funds are held by ebay in an escrow account and you have so many days to inspect the car and return it for a refund.
