How do I turn off Autopay?
I'm a newbie to the auction thing, and I noticed that a couple of bids I won were processed right away. But I now have several bids in with a seller who accepts "combined shipments". I asked him what I have to do to have him hold orders without ebay automatically billing them separately, and he said I have to turn off autopay. But I have no idea how to do that. Can someone please help me? Thank you!

·7 months agoYes @campanaelia simply lock that card to cause the autopay to fail.
Then use a different card or PayPal at eBay Checkout instead, e.g. for a combined shipment.
Just because the merchant already has the charms on file with the card to complete the transaction, doesn't mean you card cannot be maxed out -- or locked -- by the time the charge is attempted, so eBay anticipates failure and has already written the words for those emails announcing that autopay failed.

I do not think the seller is lying, they are just remembering how ebay worked in 2020 before Auto Pay was instituted by ebay when they were regularly selling. You need to learn to check seller's feedback profiles, because situations like this happen fairly often with new sellers who haven't sold any thing before, and those who have not sold anything in over a year.
Here's how you check a seller's profile before buying from one.
On an item's listing page in the upper right under the seller's username and feedback number you will see 3 buttons
Clicking on their percentage of positives is one way to get to their profile the other is further down the listing page where you see the seller's username in a large font. Under it will be a few comments, and under that a ( See All Feedback) button. Click on it. On the page that opens you will see the following line below some comments.
Click on the switch back to classic view. In the upper left is the seller's country or registry, and below that is a box with the number's of neutral and negative feedback a seller has received. those numbers can be clicked on to read only those comments and the seller's replies if any. Under the box are buttons to see All feedback, As a buyer / Seller /Left for others. You want to see their selling feedback, because a seller can have a fair number of feedback and even a 100% rating but all for buying at least in the last year. Sellers who have no selling feedback or have received none in over a year often run into problems so you should avoid buying from them, until you have more experience.
When you click on the As a seller button just above the first comments on the right is a box w/ [Most Relevant v ] click on that to see their [Most Recent] feedback.
In this situation you can go to your feedback profile page click o your feedback number under your username in your original post. Click on the number in ( ) to the right of their username, in this case (587)
To view all of their feedback click on [ Most relevant v ] and change it to Most recent. Then you will see over the first comment
Under that will be two comments received over a year ago and under them is;
And that is why the seller thinks that YOU have auto pay enabled, it hadn't been started back then.
"I also got thte same answer from the Reddit ebay community. I just copied and pasted one of the answers I received, and I also sent him a YouTube video on how a seller can turn it off. We'll see what happens!".
Without knowing what articles you saw on Reddit, we cannot tell you how accurate the info is. However, there is a lot of misinformation posted on the Social Media sites from people who do not have much experience using ebay. I do not think the link to the video will be delivered to your seller because ebay does not allow links to be sent though their message system.
You might be able to save us all a lot of time if you tell your seller to come to scroll to the bottom of an ebay page and under the Community header on the right click on Community.
On the page that opens Hover over Buying & Selling v select Buying and to look for your topic How do I turn off autopay. If he does that and reads my replies and responds to one, I or another long time community member can tell him how he can turn it off for future listings and how to send you a partial refund once he has shipped the items.
Has he even sent the items yet? If not he needs to do the google search I suggested in my 2nd post.

·7 months agoThe way I've been solving this @pilot-223 is to set up my autopay with a seldom-used credit card.
Then I lock the card.
When autopay tries to "bids I won were processed right away" it will fail
and the items I have won will drop into my shopping cart instead
to "hold orders without ebay automatically billing them separately"
and I can ask my seller for a combined shipping discount.

I am curious, have you actually successfully done the method you describe above?
I thought once authorization is given for a charge, the merchant already has the charms on file with the card to complete the transaction.
Sort of like if you have a subscription and you block your card, the charge for the subscription will still be processed.

·7 months agoAny time a buyer has to tell a seller how to sell, usually we have a bad outcome. I cant imagine this going well, nor you getting you shipping discounts.

OP7 months agoYep! This guy was getting really nasty, and finally he told me to never bid on his products again, lol. Since I can't cancel my bids, I figured worst case scenario, I'd end up filing a dispute with my credit card company. Wish me luck 🙂

I should have checked your profile before replying the first time. The seller you bought from has not sold anything in over 5 years and probably does not know they have been opted into auto pay for their auctions. They may also not know that a 30 day hold has been placed on your payment as well.
You may have to message them and tell them to do Google searches for:
1) Payments on hold, ebay ---- explains how to deal with the hold.
2) Refunding buyers, ebay ----- tells them how a partial refund can be issued even with the payment on hold.
3) Setting buyer requirements, ebay ---- tell them to look under the Buyer Rules header on that page and un check Require buyers to provide a payment method before they place a bid.
doing that will allow buyers to request a combined shipping invoice.

Your seller is wrong, Auto pay is enabled on the seller's end, and many do not know that ebay opted them into it. The seller has to set up Combined payments on their end, and enable it in their buyer requirements, not just say they will combine shipping. There should have been an option to select either Shop now pay later or Pay in 7, when bidding if the seller had done that.
The seller may not be able to send you a combined shipping invoice, but they can refund the difference between the cost you paid and the combined shipping total once they know the cost.
