House That Turned Out Fire Damaged
I wonder whatever happened with the sale of the very inexpensive house ($11,000 if I remember correctly) in rural Mississippi (I think) that the buyer came here complaining that the seller had nice pictures in his eBay listing, but the house turned out to be fire damaged beyond repair. He had already paid and the seller wouldn't respond. Anyone find out what the outcome was?

·1 year agoLive and learn. I have 5 properties in Mississippi that I bought at the tax sale. There is fire damage in 2 of them, but at least one is not worthless. Also land is worth something.
This reminds me to go and fly and meet my real estate agent. I want to center my investing in Hattiesburg because there is a college, an ocean and the people are friendly.
If the property sells at a loss, you can still take it off taxes.

OP1 year agoThat's pretty rough. I had a house burn out too. It's demoralizing. But, I had insurance, so recovered, but I would have preferred to keep the house.

·1 year agoYes, that was my house. Unfortunately it wasnt insured at the time, and worse was losing countless items of sentimental value.

·1 year agoUltimately I have the same question about someone paying for real estate without actually inspecting it as I do about people who pay for cars sight unseen. Why on earth would you do that???

No updates, OP hasn't been back to the community since then, seller is still listing property but doesn't sell much.
That thread was in Sept 2024. In Oct 2024, the property was listed again on Zillow and it still shows as available. The price was lowered in Jan 2025. The only picture on Zillow is the google image, showing the front door open onto the burned-out interior.

OP1 year agoThat's the one. I wonder if the buyer got his money back or if the buyer is now trying to sell it.

·1 year agoZillow doesn't have any record of a change in ownership at that time, so it would appear it still belongs to the same person.
Oddly, Zillow says it was listed for rent before it was listed for sale again. Who would expect to be able to rent that place without fixing it? The roof and at least one wall were wide open, and the interior was pretty much entirely burned to the studs. There aren't any new pictures on google at this point.
The seller said, in his reply to the OP's feedback, that the OP never paid for it, and OP said otherwise. I'm guessing that OP got their money back from their credit card.
