Holiday buying frustrations gift being late…

I was looking for a Christmas gift for someone who collects vintage glass items that are collectible ….I didn’t really find what I am looking for at good reasonable price and most of the time shipping fees are way more than actual item…however, I found one at good price and shipping was $12.00…  I still had 6 days so it could make it .

i know time is critical and busiest time of the year in any mail services.

anyway, I bought it and paid right away and asked seller if she or he could sent right away because it will be a gift for Christmas….and I will gladly pay extra for faster shipping ….no responds….2 days after I paid, seller print out shipping and send out slowest shipping too….

I had to go out and shop around in antique stores and found item and give it to that special someone because item never arrived and still in transit after 9 days I bought and paid….

now 9 days later it still in transit and too late for Christmas ….seller lives not too far from me …and yes I watched weather so because everywhere is bad but seller state and my state don’t have a bad weather just colder …when I sold something for a gift I ship immediately and I send priority even if buyer didn’t paid for priority ..that is how I am and yes everyone is different and some care more than others…

I also bought 3 different items from 3 different sellers and 2 of them send right away and I got it within 3 to 4 days….

just frustrating some sellers do not care even after you asked to ship expedited shipping and I will pay the difference but totally ignored and wait a round and send few days later at slowest mail, cheapest possible …may cost seller $$6.00 at the most and I paid $12 shipping…

just blowing out my frustration that’s all.

I still plans to give it as late gift but will not give positive feedback to seller.

i m sure some of you will not agreed with me if you are a seller but like I say not everyone is compassionate nor responsible…

you seem to equate postage with the item cost which is very difficult to understand. For example a box of aquarium stones for the bottom is cheap but it is super heavy. Distances (shipping zones) also determine cost. Such items travel cheapest in priority flat rate boxes - medium is $14 Ebay price but over $17 at the post office. From the shipping price Ebay charges almost 15% once the additional service fee of 30 cents is added. Shipping is not a good way for sellers to make money. Also some shipping zones will take over a month to arrive coming via parcel select shipping. Finally the shipping time given by the shipper might be longer than you realize and Ebay doesn't count weekends or holidays as valid shipping days

    @mybabylily,

Now that I have had my second cup of coffee and am more awake, it occurred to me that you asking the seller to upgrade the shipping method after winning and paying for the auction, then leaving the feedback, violated ebay's feedback policy for "Demanding something that wasn't offered in the original listing".

If the seller knows about the policy, or looks up feedback removal, it could be reported and your feedback removed.  Not sure if their reply would also be removed though.

    I agree with the others.

You should know better about the holiday shipping times and that items cannot be guarantee delivery.

Looking at your feedback that you left for other sellers . . .  😳

Those that deal in jewelry / gemstones should be placing you on their block list.

Actually, I see that you should be purchasing directly at stores.

Sorry, but you made yourself frustrated for the holidays.

    @mybabylily,

"I still had 6 days so it could make it. i know time is critical and busiest time of the year in any mail services. anyway, I bought it and paid right away and asked seller if she or he could sent right away because it will be a gift for Christmas….and I will gladly pay extra for faster shipping ….no responds….2 days after I paid, seller print out shipping and send out slowest shipping too… No handling time listed and yes many services can and will deliver within 6 days express too and I am willing to pay for it".

You are a seller, and should know that the cut off date was Dec. 16th for Ground Advantage  delivery by the 24th. That was two days before the seller could ship the item since you bought it on Sunday the 17th.  Had you asked your question before bidding on the vase, the seller would have had a chance to add Priority mail to the shipping services, so you could choose that option.  But you didn't do that, you waited until after you won the item as the only bidder.

"No handling time listed and yes many services can and will deliver within 6 days express too and I am willing to pay for it and this is small very small piece weigh less than a pound…size of soda can".

You are an ebay seller and know that even if your seller had been willing to ship the item priority they would have had to get a price for Priority then bill you for it, outside of ebay, and wait for you to pay, before shipping the item.  Maybe given the prices you get for your items, there is enough wiggle room for you to upgrade shipping when asked, but not every seller can afford to do that, especially for an item that got only 1 bid. FYI soda cans are only 5" tall the vase was 9" tall, maybe wider than a soda can, and probably weighs over 1 lb. without the box and packing material weight.

The fact that you waited for an auction that was going end on the 17th,  makes me think that you were doing some very late shopping for "that special person". Given your feedback left for other sellers it seems that you procrastinate when shopping for your friends and/or you are cheap when buying gifts for the special people in your life.   Thanks, for posting though.

Holiday buying frustrations gift being late…

Holiday buying frustrations of the seller....

Buyer's who think that their own lack of planning is somehow the seller's emergency.

It takes 12 months a year for Christmas to arrive and a buyer decides to buy online at peak postal/shipping time 6 days prior.......

    Thanks for posting

Deep down you are frustrated at yourself that you procrastinated buying that gift for your special someone. Those emotions are hard for you to process so you're deflecting the blame onto this eBay seller who did nothing wrong. Deep down you feel guilty for doing that so you're posting on here to get someone to agree with you, and nobody is, because leaving that negative feedback was wrong plain and simple. Merry Christmas.

I don't see why you are frustrated with anyone but yourself here. YOU waited until the absolute last minute to purchase the gift. You ASSUMED that the seller might be able to ship it more quickly than their stated handling time (which could easily not have been possible for the seller, as many people are fairly busy around the holidays). You ASSUMED that there would be no mail delays, which is a foolish assumption to make when this is the time of the year when mail volume is at its highest.

Thanks for posting. You have been added to my best buddy list for being an absolutely unreasonable buyer.

I kinda think no one will agree with you.

Aren't you worried any sellers or friends of sellers who you give bad feedback to will do the same to you?

You are a seller and should know better.

And everyone can read your feedbacks left for others.

That auction ended on a Sunday evening (Dec.17), so the very soonest that the seller could have shipped would have been on Monday (Dec. 18). That was totally unreasonable for you to expect delivery by Saturday (Dec. 23) via Ground Advantage, regardless of the distance.

    Thanks for posting.

The listing you left that awful neg for specifically stated Ground Advantage shipping.  If you want to make special shipping arrangements, you should inquire BEFORE purchasing. Sellers cannot always ship immediately and accommodate special request for express shipping.

You are the kind of customer I dread in the holiday season.

You are buying for a collector, without knowing much about the area of collection and probably not about what the gift recipient already owns.

    You are a late buyer.

You were concerned about the cost of shipping when you shopped, not realizing that often a low shipping cost means a slow shipping service, lower quality packaging and a high chance of damage.

You did not consider seeking a faster delivery time BEFORE you bought.

This order was destined to be returned.

Mail order is not best when you need it by a dead line.  Not all eBay sellers work full time at it too.

Shipping glass will cost as it's heavy and needs lots of packing and boxing to arrive undamaged.  As the box gets bigger, over size shipping rates can kick the price up mighty.

Express doesn't guarantee anything.......we had a buyer purchase Express Mail, we shipped as soon as they paid and it still took USPS 5 days to deliver.

Shipped the 16th and didn't arrive until the 21st...Missouri to Illinois.

One of the points that people are making here is that you could have (should have) asked for a faster shipping service BEFORE buying.  As others have remarked, not every seller can accommodate such a request.

Bingo. I actually had a buyer ask me that recently and I told them I would be happy to do so. The difference is that they asked BEFORE they made the purchase.

I think the OP did ask before,  and the reply to that ridiculous negative ''Before you purchased you asked if it item would be delivered by Christmas. I told you I couldn’t guarantee it would. You bought it anyway. Contact the postal service

I don't agree with you and I'm a buyer. If you wanted to buy a last-minute gift you should have messaged the seller before you made the purchase to see if they were willing to expedite shipping. To not jump through your arbitrary hoops afterwards has absolutely nothing to do with being compassionate or responsible.

At this time of year, getting your item within  6 days is hardly a sure thing, no matter what level of  shipping  service was used.  As stainlessenginecovers states, the sellers handling time also comes into play here... Almost anyone on these boards will tell you not to depend on ebay if you need something right away.

    6 calendar days?

    What day did you buy?

How many 'handling days' does it say on the 'shipping tab' of the item you purchased? (Not everyone runs out the same day an item is purchased, regardless of a 'message' you send)
