HO Trains - What Does It take to Fix a Bachmann Steam Loco?
I have been looking at eBay ads associated with Bachmann steam locomotives for years now. I would like to know what it takes to repair the "out-of-quarter" / misaligned driver wheels on these locomotives. The 0-6-0, 2-8-0, 4-4-0, 4-8-4, and 2-10-4 "basket cases" continue to sell; therefore, I assume that buyers must be able to repair them.
The basic problem is that the plastic axle tubes between the driver wheels crack and then the driver wheels go out-of-quarter.
Current repair techniques:
1) Use super glue between the axles and the nubs on the drivers.
2) U-Tube has a presentation on a repair technique which uses shrink tubing on the axles.
3) Some folks are marketing 3D printed replacement axle / gear sets on eBay.
4) I have two techniques which

I forgot to mention the Bachmann Spectrum 4-6-2.
What complicates matters is that there are 5 different axle - driver wheel combinations. One of the designs utilizes a plastic tube with a square inner bore. The driver wheels on the Bachmann Spectrum 4-6-2 have plastic inserts in the driver wheels. The latest axle-driver wheel design appears to be quite robust (that is, it does not use a plastic tube).
I would like to know how successful model railroaders have been with various repair techniques. I would also like to know if the Bachmann buyers are keeping / running the locos or turning around and reselling the repaired items.
