Hmmm . . . that seems shady
Twice it has happened in less than two months. I bought coins from two eBay dealers at their "buy it now" prices. Paid promptly. Got projected delivery dates. Whoa, what's this? Hours later, in both cases, I got notifications that the sellers canceled the purchases. Some excuse about "problems with the buyer's delivery address." And how 'bout that? Both coins were back on their eBay store sites in no time, relisted at "buy it now" prices double what I'd just paid. Looks like "problems" with my delivery address was a bunch of bull. Looks like it was good ol' underhanded dishonesty -- an unethical reneging on a transaction -- to exploit silver and turn greedy and gouge a new sucker . . . oops, I mean buyer. Filing complaints with eBay is absurd. Seriously??You're telling me your "investigation" found nothing that violates eBay policy??? So a seller who kills a purchase agreement to repost the merchandise at a higher price doesn't sound . . . uh . . . a little shady? You gotta be kidding me.

·8 months agoIt happens. It's part of life.
Markets Change. Might have been a while since that Dealer had checked on the value of that coin and chose to renege on the deal and try to go for more money. People do it every day.
Is it right? No. Is it against ebay policy? Somewhat. But, no Seller here can be forced to sell something if they choose not to sell it.
Which are you more upset about? Seller here cancelling sale for false reasons, as in trouble with Buyers address, as thousands of Sellers break the rules and do every single day on ebay. Or more upset that you didn't get that coin at the low price you first paid for it at? If it was all about the Coin, the Coin is back up for sale again. Go get it. 😄

OP8 months agoYou're missing the point, my friend. Just because things are done all the time isn't proper justification. What we have here is a matter of ethics. If an eBay seller values integrity, ethics is a huge part of it. The purchase transaction was an agreement. The seller had an asking price, I paid it. To use your flawed reasoning, it would have been cool of me -- ethical of me -- to have bought something and then tell the seller, "You know what, I'm going to cancel this deal, I just bought the item from somebody else, sorry, it happens all the time." If you were that seller, trust me, you'd be ticked as all hell. What should have been done here is 1) the seller could have easily contacted me to resolve any "problem with shipping address" issue, 2) the seller could have been a man of his word and honored the price that HE set for this specific coin, then raise the prices of similar coins he sold after, and 3) not be so stupid as to immediately relist the coin at a massively higher price. Don't take it personally, but I'm going to skip your advice. Ethical conduct seems to be a difficult virtue for you to grasp. The seller was happy asking $68 for the coin. Now he cancels and wants $149??? He's underhandedly exploiting the market. Surely you grasp all this, right?

·8 months agoSorry to hear that this seller cancellation happened, it undermines trust & possibly may negatively impact other sellers & ebay
Inappropriate seller behavior is not good for business. & should be highly discouraged by ebay

The item MAY be 'out of stock' ... but the seller would receive a ding on their account if they cancelled for that reason ... so they choose a reason (problem with buyer's address) that doesn't get them into trouble.
It's possible that the increase in cost of the item was just to keep buyers from purchasing them until they come back in stock ... at which time the price will be reduced.
Wouldn't it be nice if people would only tell the truth? Yeah, right.
