U know what's crazy I've been seeing a lot of ppl getting scammed trying to purchase cars through eBay and never receiving the car someone right now is trying to do me the exact same way but luckily I looked it up first and so glad I did now I'm bout to report them for trying to scam me she's supposed to be in the military and can't me in in person she has a 2004 Toyota Camry for 600 but want me to send her money through eBay cards I knew it was a scamm

·1 year agoNone of those cars are eBay sales. It's just scammers using the eBay name to steal money.
eBay auto sales are done in person as the buyer has to inspect it before buying.
In the military and husband died are some of the most popular scam reasons.
Good thing you were wise and checked. Watch out for too good to be true prices, they always are.

Think about this. for a minute -- if the "seller" actually took their 2004 Toyota Camry to any real used car lot, she would be paid much more than $600 -- and wouldn't have to be bothered with eBay fees.
A major tip-off that there is no car -- but just another scam.

·1 year agoYou didn't find this car listed on eBay. eBay has nothing to do with it.
Those people are not "trying to purchase cars through eBay". They are getting scammed by sellers who list a vehicle (usually nonexistent) on a different site and claiming the transaction will go through eBay. There is a difference.

Since you just joined ebay today, here's a little primer. NONE of these scam sales are "through ebay".
They are listed on lesser sites such as facebook marketplace, craig's list, etc. when the scammer has reeled in a victim, they claim ebay will handle the final phase of the transaction, as ebay is "already storing the car in their warehouse". Sound familiar? Then they tell the victim to pay with ebay gift cards as you've discovered. After that, the car that never existed, the bogus seller, and someone's hundreds of dollars in gift cards vanish in a puff of smoke. Game over... We've been seeing this same scam over and over for many years on these boards.

·1 year agoThere is a formula to this scam. Appeal to desperate people on a site where people are unlikely to know how Ebay Motors operates, offer them a deal which they cannot find anywhere because it is too good to be true, and rely on their stupidity to help rip them off.
Add a little human interest to put them at ease with the fictional seller.
There is no cure for this pathology.

Many people have been scammed this way. Like the others posted report them on the site where you found the car Facebook/Craig's List etc...
