Has bidding changed?
Ok so I just went to bid on a t shirt that I have been eyeing all day. As a person who has been buying on eBay for years, I always prefer to wait until the final seconds to place my high bid and if I win great, if I don’t, it wasn’t meant for me.
Well I just had something weird happen. With 15 seconds left in the auction I clicked submit on my max bid which was going to be $58.88. When the little screen popped up to confirm my bid I clicked submit with 13 seconds left in the auction but instead of submitting my bid a screen popped up with 3 blue rectangles with bid options in them. I think at that point it was $45 $46 $47 and I was stunned. I think I clicked 46 but it was too late and the auction ended with the winning bid being $45.
I should have won that auction and I would have if it had allowed me to submit my max bid which it did not do. My question is, is this the new bidding system for EBay? Are they no longer allowing mac bids with auto bidding up to your max bid? Is this something implemented by the seller because it actually cost them. I bid on something the week before and everything went as usual so I’m just wondering if this is some sort of new change to stop people from bidding their max bid in the last seconds of the auction. I know there were 8 people watching the auction and I have to wonder how many others tried to submit max bids only to see that weird screen pop up which resulted in not just a loss for a buyer that would have been willing to pay more but a loss for the seller because that shirt ended up going for less than even I would have paid had I been allowed to submit my bid instead of getting only 3 bidding options unexpectedly. I’m not angry, it’s a concert shirt I should have bought last week at the concert but didn’t. I just want to know if this is what to expect now.
