goal of ultra-low price scams?
I am seeing a lot of ultra-low price scams recently for popular products, such as 2TB SD cards for $15, popular Canon cameras for 1/2 the average price, etc. mostly coming from 0 rating sellers. I have reported some to ebay, and ebay took some down, but there are just so many.
What is the goal of these scam sellers? For new sellers, I believe ebay put their money in an escrow account first. Of course the buyers will complain, and ebay will refund the money. So, what is the goal of these scams?

·4 months agoThey get buyers that don't know too good to be true prices always are. Then use the fake tracking number scam. Quite a popular racket too.

·4 months agoThe goal is to find buyers dumb enough to fall for their scam, and not smart enough to get their money refunded. They may have several listings and only need to find a few buyers to make themself some decent money.

The funds hold is only effective if the person scammed is actually savvy enough to notice that eBay Money Back Guarantee link on each listing and open a case. From the glut of posts we get here it's evident there are a great many buyers who aren't. A lot of those never find the forums, give up on the Help AI, and just take the loss. It's like phone scams. Most people will hang up or just not answer, but the scammers get enough of the clueless to keep them in business.

·4 months agoI assume the goal is to get the money. Either by dragging things out with false promises/lies to the buyers. Or hoping that the buyer is completely ignorant on ways to get their money back.
Some of these scammers appear to work on an industrial scale. I expect targetting ebay is just one of their "jobs".
