Getting screwed on currency conversion
Years ago, purchasing on Ebay was much simpler. I have a dual currency credit card so when I make US dollar purchases it used to be a simple matter of paying straight with my card. No independent currency conversion, it was all handled by my bank.
Now when making a purchase it goes through, but a few days later the amount I was charged changes and I am charged more for my purchase. Unfortunately I recently received a refund from a purchase made less than a week ago, and I have received less than what I paid. ($US 402.97, initially charged $JA 63,109.75, then after a few days the charge became $JA 65,945.57. Now my refund is $JA 63,719.19 a loss of $2,226.38 ). I do not care for nor do I need ebay currency conversion as it offers no benefits for me, is there a way to turn it off and let my bank handle my purchases like it used to?

I would go to your bank and see what they have to say about this. It appears that perhaps your USD payments may not be submitted by the bank as USD. Or it may just be something else triggering the problem that is allowing the "after the fact" currency conversion charges. The bank should be able to tell you. I hope you let us know what you find out as well.

·1 year agoIf you use PP to checkout on ebay manually you will be given a choice for currency options to pay in the foreign currency or USD.
Or to set up auto-payments for ebay, go to paypal, click the gear icon on top right, then click payments, then click automatic payments and click on ebay inc.
Then click on your payment method, then click conversion options, then choose your card issuer and save.

·1 year agoYes, they certainly do make it difficult to find, that's why I added the screenshots.
I guess they make it difficult because if you let PP do the exchange rate they make a profit on that too.

·1 year agoUse paypal, with PP you can choose the to have your bank do the rate conversion.
