Getting a Refund After Case Closed (Item Already Returned)
Summary: ro70724 shared their experience of purchasing an item through an auction on eBay that arrived with more defects than described. They attempted a return but mistakenly used the wrong dropbox. Although they contacted eBay and had evidence of the return, their case was closed prematurely, leaving them without a refund. They are seeking advice from others who might have faced similar situations and successfully obtained a refund.
Hi there,
I recently purchased an item through an auction on Ebay that had arrived with more defects than described in the listing and was not usable. I requested a refund about a week after.
A few days after opening the case, I had packaged it and dropped it off at the wrong dropbox. Once I realized my mistake, I had tried getting ahold of both companies (the owner of the dropbox and the shipping company that was supposed to recieve my package) with no success. I was able to reach Ebay once about this issue and to the best of my memory, was told that my case would not close for another week.
The case did end up closing before then, and about 10 days after the return arrived on the doorstep of the seller. I have pictures and the tracking number to prove it. I've attempted to reach both Ebay customer support and the seller, but only the former responded and when summarizing my situation in their message, did not get the details right. I tried to reach them again with no response.
I'm frustrated, because now I'm out a good chunk of money and without the item I had purchased. Has anybody been through this situation and been able to get at least part of their money back?

·1 week agoJust curious, have you even tried writing to the seller and asking them to issue the refund even though they don't have to? I feel like there's a way to do it, like appeal to their empathy, don't try to lecture them on right and wrong, because it's already wrong that they haven't just voluntarily refunded you, and confronting them with that will not work.

·1 week agoYour next step is to dispute it with your payment source. Once a case is closed there is no reopening it. Ebay will not refund you. You made a mistake unfortunately there is nothing Ebay will do for you.
