fuel tank
Item advertised as a fuel tank and shown with boats, lawn mowers, atv's etc. The tank shown is RED which is for gasoline, but the seller indicates that the item is only compabible with Diesel..... This is a misleading add. If it is only compatable with Diesel it should not be a RED TANK

A couple of the previous replies are correct a Can's color is to indicate the type of fuel in it for identification purposes only. The plastics used to make the cans is the same no matter what type of fuel it is meant to hold. Some gas station clerks may say you can't put diesel or kerosene in a red can, by law, but they are mistaken.
You seem to be mistaking the difference between a fuel tank, and a fuel can. A fuel tank, will have some means to connect a fuel line directly to it. It will also have a twist and lock fuel cap. A fuel can will have a pour spout of some kind used to fill fuel "tanks", that usually threads on for use. New ones also have a stopper mechanism, to prevent spillage. I will not buy cans that do not have a little vent cap on them.
Look more closely at your seller's listing to see if they offer color variations red, yellow, blue or green, If they don't, then I wouldn't trust a seller who doesn't know the difference. They're probably located in China and the can may not be made of fuel resistant plastic.

·2 years agoNot sure if you know this - but you can put any fuel you want in any container you want. I like to use 5 gallon water cooler jugs myself and put a cork on it.

·2 years agoDid you purchase the item? Have you contacted the seller to ask them about the discrepancy? It is possible that the seller made an error.
The color coding is more for identification of the contents of the container rather than compatibility with the contents. Putting diesel in a red tank will not cause the tank to fail but it increases the chance of the wrong fuel being put in a machine.

·2 years agoThey are often all made from the same plastic. The EPA has rules that state a gasoline can has to have that #$%^&& self closing spout that spills fuel all over. A can with a usable spout can't be sold as a gasoline can. That could be the issue.
In my state you can't have grocery bags made of plastic. So wally delivers in large plastic envelopes with peel and stick flaps. Those are packages not bags you see.
