Freedback
I was sent the wrong size of an item that I needed right away. So I bought it locally and asked the seller to give me a refund, but he ignored my request. So I returned it to him using a prepaid label.
Can I also give him negative feedback or does the fact that I will get a refund prevent me from doing that?

·9 months agoThere are some missing pieces here...did you actually file a INAD for return and refund? When you say "prepaid" label, who prepaid it? For an INAD case you never need to contact the seller, you just file the claim, receive the label and return for a refund. Was this more a remorse or buyer error and the seller doesn't accept returns?
I'm just not sure I'm clear on what happened to fully understand how to apply feedback. A part of me reads this as, buyer was in hurry, ordered wrong, had to hurry up and purchase locally, wanted to return, seller doesn't accept returns, buyer just ships the item back and assumes they will be refunded, is upset and wants to blame seller....I just don't know if feedback comes in to play here at all

·9 months agoI hope for your sake that you opened an actual return request which would have also allowed you to print the label. If however you sent it without opening a formal return request (and simply printing a label on your own, with the seller's address as recipient) the chance of you getting a refund would be slim to none.
That said, if you opened a return request and you are issued a refund it may prevent you from leaving a negative thou I'm not sure... I am however certain that if you sent the item back "outside of ebay" then nothing will prevent you from leaving said feedback, granted you also won't be getting a refund.
Always follow the process.

Ah! The voice of reason. (Because you interpreted the OP exactly as I did.) If we're on point, @benchmark, pay attention. 🖕

·8 months agoThere might be further issues, the OP stated they bought the item "locally..."
That is a really interesting statement, which tells me that perhaps they did a "local pickup."
If such is the case it now depends whether the item for sale had "local pickup" as an option, also if the seller didn't have this option they should have refused the sale (but clearly did not), so was local pickup an option?
There is even a chance the sale was taken "off site" by the seller so there is no record of the sale.
Either way a formal / actual return request HAS to be opened.
Here is the problem...
I suspect the buyer simply shipped the item back of their own volition (possibly didn't even contact the seller first), by purchasing a label of their own accord, and using the seller's address as the recipient (which in effect sends the seller back their item, but outside of any formal return request there is absolutely no seller I know of that will issue a refund - For one thing how would they even begin to accomplish that, without a return request sellers can no longer simply issue a refund, even cancelling a sale is risky at this stage).

·8 months agoMy interpretation of "bought the item locally" is that the OP bought it from a brick-and-mortar store. Not everything in life is purchased on eBay.

·9 months agoYou say you asked the seller to give you a refund. If by that you mean you expected the seller to refund you without you returning the item then yes, leaving negative feedback would be a dirty thing to do. Why on earth would you expect to be entitled to a refund before the item was returned? It sounds like the process went exactly as it should: You opened a return request, were sent a prepaid label, and returned the item. Once tracking shows the return delivered you'll be refunded. It's honestly kind of petty to want to extract your pound of flesh as well.

If the seller actually sent you a size different than what you ordered, it was probably a simple mistake that it sounds like is being taken care of. Mistakes happen. Yes, you were inconvenienced but what purpose does it serve if you give the seller a negative other than to make you feel better because you are punishing him for his mistake? Why not just give him the benefit of a doubt, be a nice person, and move on without leaving that neg that you want to leave?

·9 months agoYou can leave whatever feedback you want to leave however if the refund was issued then I would just forget about leaving feedback. Feedback can be appealed. What you need to understand is when you are dealing with sizes such as clothing or parts sending wrong sizes or items that just do not fit happen. You made an attempt to contact the seller but did the right thing by filing the return case.

·9 months agoOK, so, only reason why you would give a Negative is because they didn't refund you immediately. Right.
You have sent the item back and are expecting your Refund, which will come when Seller gets their item back. You also said Seller ignored your request for the refund at first, and you sent item back AFTER the request when Seller sent you a Prepaid Label. Again, Right.
WHEN you get your Refund, WHY do you think it would be appropriate to give Seller a Negative after the process worked out the way it was supposed to?
First, you request Return.
Second, you send item back.
Third, Seller receives item back.
Fourth, Seller refunds.
Now you're telling us you want to Neg this Seller because they didn't put the Fourth Step First?
Are you making this up?

·9 months agoA seller does not have to just refund. They can require the item be returned first.

·9 months ago'I returned it to him using a prepaid label'...'but he ignored my request'.
Did you get the refund yet?
How did you get a prepaid label?
And remember, other sellers will be able to read the negative feedback you give to a seller.
Some sellers will think twice about selling to a buyer who gives out negative feedbacks.
If you got a refund I wouldn't leave any feedback.

·9 months agoAlthough it's not clear exactly what happened and I don't advocate (or advise) leaving negative feedback frivolously, there are cases in which the seller can "earn" it.
1. From the OP: "asked the seller to give me a refund, but he ignored my request."
The seller certainly doesn't owe the buyer a refund without a return. And the buyer has no right to expect it.
2. From the OP: "So I returned it to him using a prepaid label."
If the buyer received the prepaid label, I assume (correctly?) that the buyer opened a return request for NAD.
@benchmark
Has it been delivered to the seller? If so, on what date? The seller has 4 days to issue the refund after receipt of the return.
albertabrightalberta
·9 months agoIf the buyer's claim is legitimately NAD (not as described) - as in the buyer received an item of a different size than they ordered, a negative feedback would NOT be likely to be removed as long as it doesn't violate ebay's policy.

·9 months agoMaybe Ebay would remove it, maybe not. Try and see what happens.

·9 months agoYou can always do it. eBay would just remove the feedback. Personally, I don't like handing out negatives unless I thought the seller acted with malice or was abusive/accusational in messages. For a simple mistake I probably wouldn't bother. I would also wait to see how the refund process pans out before saying anything,
