Fraud is running rampant on eBay
I think I've just made my last eBay purchase. Twice in the past couple weeks I've bought parts that were listed as New OEM parts and received counterfeit junk. In both cases, when I complained to the seller, their response was an offer to refund my money if I would return the part and change my feedback. Today, I discovered that my negative feedback has been REMOVED, presumably because I wouldn't cooperate with the seller and return the product for a refund so they can scam someone else!!! This is FRAUD and I find it hard to believe that eBay is unaware that it's happening. eBay, what are you doing to put an end to this crap? If you're not going to protect buyers from these scam artists and you're going to remove the HONEST AND ACCURATE FEEDBACK that the victims of these scam artists are posting, then I have no choice but to conclude that it's really eBay that's doing the scamming.

·8 months agoAs buyers and sellers we cant just pick the parts of eBay we want to use and not use. We need to follow protocol. No idea who is telling the truth, I don't know the OP or the seller. But we cant ignore the process and then feel we are being done wrong when we cant "just use" feedback because that is the only part of the process we want to follow. It just doesn't work that way.
When we buy/sell on eBay we agree to follow ebay's process, not a buyer's or a seller's personal preference.
I know things can be frustrating, but in the best interest of everyone we need to follow the rules or don't buy/sell on ebay...which I believe is the path the OP is going to take. Buyers who dont follow the process is exactly what scammers and untrustworthy sellers prey upon to get away with it

·1 year agoThe problem with the fraudulent stuff coming from Chinese sellers is that they provide you with a fraudulent return label. The destination address is fake and the return address is someone else in your area. That way the buyer thinks they sent it back, but the seller never gets it and keeps the money. You have to fight with Ebay for your return!

·1 year agoAre you not using the Money Back Guarantee, opening an NAD case, receiving a prepaid return label and returning the junk? Or not receiving a label and having eBay refund you and tell you to keep the item? You don't even have to contact the seller. Many sellers will require the item be returned. You are losing money by not following the protocol of the NAD case. eBay offers you a solution. If you refuse to use it, that's on you.
guy77
OP1 year agoeBay is NOT offering a "solution", they're offering a process that protects the scammers. I opened a INAD case and yes, they quickly removed the listing, only to allow the seller to relist the item minutes later in almost exactly the same form. I went through this three times before I finally had to conclude that I was wasting my time. Meanwhile, the seller has dozens of other obviously counterfeit items listed and almost perfect feedback. How does that happen if eBay isn't protecting them? I can't be the only one who's been burned by this seller. I appreciate all the "helpful" suggestions to "follow the process" I've received here but, while following the process may get a buyer's money returned to them, it doesn't do much to protect other victims from the NUMEROUS scammers I've seen there. eBay can do better and, until they do, I'm just not going to be buying much there. That was the point I was trying to make in my original post. I was hoping that calling attention to this matter might do some good but all it seemed to do was rile up all the nasty power sellers who seemed to think that chastising me was the appropriate response. Of course, all that did was reinforce my opinion that eBay is no longer a good place to shop. It's pretty clear that eBay is protecting their sellers, regardless of their integrity or legitimacy, and they have very little interest in protecting their buyers. Shame on me for noticing that and pointing it out I guess ...

·1 year ago2 billion daily transactions-- and out of billions of transactions how many complaints of counterfeit come up? I am sure there are counterfeits out there but it is a very tiny amount of complaints compared to the vast number of parts sold.
In eBay's eyes you should return something not as described or you can't use, especially when returns are free. eBay ties not as described returns to the seller's performance. That's what gets their attention, not feedback.

·1 year ago@guy77 fraud is running rampant everywhere, especially when u don't follow the company rules to help deter or undo the so called fraud.
in this case, u open a return case for item not as described, the seller or ebay supplies the buyer with a return shipping label, the buyer sends the item back, the buyer receives a refund.
if buyers don't want to return the item plus they want a refund, unless the seller is given the opportunity to let the buyer keep the item, it makes it look like the buyer is the scammer.
fyi i see both negative feedbacks still posted NOT removed
guy77
OP1 year agoI did NOT ask for a refund. I simply want my negative feedback to stand to help other buyers. The fact that eBay makes it so easy for seller's to have buyers' feedback removed smells of collusion to me. Lastly, I don't know what feedback you're looking at but the feedback I'm referring to is not there. You're looking at feedback from ANOTHER purchase I made from a scammer, which is why I'm pretty much done with eBay.

·1 year ago@guy77,
"... In both cases, when I complained to the seller, their response was an offer to refund my money if I would return the part and change my feedback".
That is what happens when you contact a seller directly, and asking you to change your feedback in order for them to be able to refund you, is a policy violation that can be reported.
If you receive a poor quality or counterfeit part. All you have to do is go to your purchase history click on the more actions button select Return item, and choose Does not match photos or description. Never select does not fit, or you would have to pay the return shipping. That is when the seller has 3 days to respond and they should only respond in the dispute you open.
As for your feedback being removed, because you did not go through ebay's Money Back Guarantee, the seller was able to say you refused to return the item, which qualified the negative for removal. In looking at your feedback profile it seems you do not check each seller's feedback before buying from one. Always check the profile page, no matter what a seller's percentage is.
guy77
OP1 year agoI had to drill way down to find ONE complaint of counterfeit items on the seller's profile, presumably because everyone is doing what I'm being told to do ... return it and work with the seller on the feedback. At this point, I have no choice but to conclude that eBay condones this sort of fraud and look elsewhere for the parts I need. I appreciate the advice though.

I don't believe anyone is advising you to work with the seller on FB.
Everyone has been advising to return it, get your money back and leave honest, factual FB so that it doesn't get removed.
The mistake many make is putting something in the FB that allows the seller to get it deleted.
You can leave FB saying "Had to return due to questionable authenticity" and that should stand & would be a good warning.
Also the thing that gets a seller red flagged the fastest is unhappy buyers. eBay only takes so much of that before they punish a seller with higher fees, selling restrictions and eventually the BOOT.
And I personally gave you the link to report the seller.. Again, they don't remove them based on one report but if nobody reports the seller remains.
Nobody here is defending what the seller did or any seller that does this.
We are trying to explain the best way to get it on eBay's radar within the tools eBay provides.
guy77
OP1 year agoWell I did open a INAD complaint but as of yet, eBay hasn't responded. I had no idea how the process to flag scammers actually works but, frankly, they should make that information much more prominent if they want people to take advantage of it. My point remains that removing a seller's negative feedback simply because the buyer didn't follow a step in a process they knew nothing about smacks of complicity to me. Wouldn't it make more sense to investigate the SELLER when they receive feedback complaining of fraud instead of automatically siding with the seller and removing the feedback? Oh yeah, I forgot ... the seller's are the ones paying the fees, not me. At least that's what the geniuses at eBay think. I know I'm small potatoes to eBay but I'm principled and I'm not inclined to continue shopping where the "house" is on the scammers' side.

Watch that INAD case and when it says you can have eBay step in do it, If seller doesn't respond with a label. If they do mail them back their fake junk.
I believe it's usually about 4 days.
Now FB.. You can leave feedback right now if you wish. Thing is you just have to be careful how you word it and if you wait and complete the INAD it has a better chance of sticking without removal, in theory.
Nobody wants sellers that sell fakes on here, least of all other sellers. They undercut those selling genuine goods and they make us all look bad.
If you have questions about your FB being removable, you can post it here and somebody will tell you honestly if it will stand or if seller has a chance at removal.

You dont have to 'work with the seller on feedback', theres nothing he can do about that.Ebay removed the fb, most likely because you refused to return the item to the seller.
lovefindingtreasures2
·1 year agoIf you had returned the item as INAD (Item not as described), that would have meant something to eBay and your negative feedback would have stayed in place. Item not as described is one of the worst return reasons a seller can get and that will affect their store. Not Authentic is another one.
I get where you are coming from in not wanting to return the item so seller could theoretically sell it to another unsuspecting buyer. eBay needs you to return it so they know what the seller did.
If you still have a window to return to the seller, do it so the seller gets dinged.
I'm sorry this happened to you, very frustrating when you are waiting for something you need just to have it come in as a counterfeit.

·1 year ago@guy77
The best way to get Ebays attention is to file an INAD and return the item for a refund.

OP1 year agoDone, but I refuse to return the item and I want my feedback to stand or eBay is dead to me. Why would anyone ever want to do business with a company that openly allows scammers to prey on their customers?

·1 year agoI am right there with you I recd a counterfeit coin for hundreds of dollars requested a refund because I had it professionally graded I responded for a refund 31 days and ebay rejected it. It didn't matter to ebay that it was counterfeit. I filed a bad feedback and ebay deleted it. So they are protecting the seller
guy77
OP1 year agoSo now that we're aware of this, we'd be fools to keep using eBay. It's a shame because this used to be a great place to find older stuff that you can't get anywhere else but the site has been invaded by commercial seller's, many of whom are scammers. I can't figure out why they let that happen to eBay but it is what it is. Thanks for you input.

No, they are not 'protecting' the seller. You filed your case beyond the thirty day MBG time frame. The rules are the same for everybody. If its not too late and you paid with a cc or debit card, you may want to check your bank for a chargeback on the purchase.
bonjourami
·1 year agoIts nice that you want to protect other buyers, but thats not your job. All buyers are protected by Ebays 30 day MBG. The only way to put a bad seller on Ebays radar is by opening a case. When you refused to return the item, the seller had your fb removed.
guy77
OP1 year agoMy point exactly. I couldn't care less about whether I get a refund or not so why should I send the item back so he can re-sell it to another unsuspecting victim? The bottom line? This seller is defrauding people and eBay is allowing him to remove feedback that would expose the fraud. That makes them complicit in my book. And I really don't care if you think it's my "job" to help others avoid being screwed or not. Are you sure you're not the seller?
pikabo-icu
·1 year agoThis may surprise you but that's not the first time we've seen this accusation.
What you are missing is; the best way to get a seller like this on eBay's radar is unhappy buyers.
Returns and the like show eBay the seller isn't providing good service.
You can also report them but one report is not likely to have much affect.

·1 year agoOh, he knows you were not the seller. He said that because you didn't side with him. Usually their come-back is you must work for eBay,,,,,, it was a put down. Not very nice and especially to follow-up and tell you to bow out! Who does he think he is? He doesn't get to tell someone to shut up if he doesn't like their reply.
As far as OEM, he probably is not aware that OEM is a company that designs or manufactures parts or products that are then sold under another company's brand. If the part is not exactly the same brand as the original part the buyer automatically think it's counterfeit. Well, some ignorant buyers do.

·1 year agoDid you open a not as described case? If you want a refund, you must return the item, if the seller wants it returned. He will be responsible to provide a return shipping label, and refund after return. If he does not, on the fourth day ask Ebay to step in, and you will be refunded without having to return the item.Ebay has one of the most stringent buyer protection criteria on the net, with their 30 day MBG, but you must return the item if you want a refund. That is sop for any store.
