Fraud alert! Bought a fake gold bar on Ebay.
The packaging, look, stamps, serial number, everything looked so perfect. It's gold plated, non magnetic, same weight, same length and with only 1 tell. It's thicker than gold so the weight will match. After some research they sell fake bars in the exact packaging online. Ebay didn't seem concerned when I told them they just said to return it and they would look into it.

·2 years agoI buy a lot of gold on eBay and got fooled because the price of the item was average selling price in a black Perth Mint serial # sealed very well and could only be found by opening it or having it read by a machine that can read through the packaging. They are very expensive machines but give you the exact break down of the metal. the seller had very little sales but, I believed the packaging and bought 4 of them for $7,444.60 four months ago. PayPal will not back up gold purchases for 180 days I just found out and my AMEX say's I'm SOL after 60 days. I still reported it t eBay especially since they made 14% of the fraudulent sale and will definitely be having my lawyer track down who got the money at more cost to me and probably won't recover anything. However as of today I have cut off eBay indefinitely and maybe will recover my loss by curbing my spending habits. I'm mostly **bleep** at myself for buying into the packaging.
P.S. These bars had eBays name on them and where especially made for eBay by Perth Mint. I even did some research at the time to find out if Perth Mint ever made such a bar and they did. The serial numbers even start the same on mine with an E...I'm so **bleep** for not checking them out as soon s I bought them!
