Florida sales tax on items shipped to Panama
I have stopped making purchases from eBay because they charge me Florida sales tax even though the items I purchase are being forwarded to Panama. The shipping company is in Miami who receives them in Miami and then ships them by air to Panama. Because the shipping company is in Miami they charge me Florida sales tax even though the items get shipped outside of the country. It is expensive enough to pay 3 dollars a pound extra shipping and Panamanian taxes plus Florida taxes. No way. eBay has lost me as a customer. Their customer service won't give me an answer.

·6 months agoStop using freight forwarders and have the packages shipped straight to you.

·6 months agoJust ask your forwarder company for the "Tax exempt doc". In my case it was a pdf doc. I sent it to Ebay, and no more taxes in my purchases!

·2 years agoAs kathiec states, if you're freight forwarder is not tax exempt, Florida law requires sales tax to be collected.
If a package lands at a Florida address, it's taxable unless a sales tax exemption has been provided by the Florida Dept. Of Revenue.

·2 years agoYou are using a freight forwarder in FL although you are located in Panama.
If your purchases were being shipped directly to you from the US, you would not be paying a Florida state sales tax; however, the shipping address for you for these purchases is in FL, a state which does have a state sales tax.

·2 years agoEbay is required by law to collect state sales tax. Certain Florida freight forwarders are exempt, but apparently not all of them. Here's an article with more information:

If your freight forwarder is not one of the tax exempt ones eBay has no choice but to collect tax.
