Flakey seller giving me the runaround.
I had a fairly expensive (used) item on my watch list. The seller contacted me with an offer. I countered with a very reasonable lower offer figuring seller would come back with a 'meet in the middle' offer. But seller came back with an offer higher than their original offer.
I then came back with the 'meet in the middle' offer which seller rejected /came back with the same higher offer. Needless to say no sale.
A few weeks later seller messages me through Ebay and says they will accept my 'meet in the middle' offer which I didn't see right away, but before I could reply they sent me another message through Ebay saying they would accept my original lower offer. I immediately agreed, but heard nothing back from the seller other than they were 'waiting for Ebay to verify shipping label' which makes no sense because I hadn't paid for the item yet, hadn't been sent an invoice. Nada.
Figuring the seller wasn't Ebay savy on how to get paid for an item (deal made through Ebay messaging), I submittted an offer to them for the amount we agreed upon (plus sales tax and shipping) and it was rejected by the seller.
Either seller changed their mind at the 11th hour, or they are somehow managing an invoice generation (??) -- but it's been almost 48 hours since I agreed (through messaging) to buy the item and no I now longer want it because I found something better from a different seller.
As I understand things, I am NOT bound to purchase the item just because we agreed to a sale through messaging -- especially since seller officially rejected the agreed upon offer I made after we agreed on price. I've never been in this type of situation before and hope this flakey seller doesn't try to hold me to something. Should I do anything further or just ignore this seller?

I have no idea what this means as seller has not provided me with a way to pay for the item at the price we agreed on. Maybe the seller is under the assumption that Ebay to going to automatically and magically generate some sort of conformation and shipping label based on the messaging deal we made. Or...seller is entertaining other offers that aren't panning out yet.
Either way I don't want the item now but I do feel bad for the seller IF (and only if) they are genuinely uninformed as to how Ebay works and aren't jerking me around.
If I contact seller and ask how they expect a shipping lable without a buyer actually paying for the item, then I'm back in the game. I really don't want to communicate with them now. Is that wrong?

I would send a quick message: Sorry I purchased elsewhere. There will be no sale, Thanks.
If they know they wont be making a sale, they should stop messaging you.
Or you are welcome to just ignore them.

Maybe it wasn't the seller that rejected it. eBay provides an option for an offer to be automatically rejected if the offer is below a threshold that the seller selects. Maybe the seller has this set and doesn't even know it. Well, anyway, it's a moot question, since you've found something better. Just move on.
Just move on, find another seller that isn't into playing games with offers.
