Feedback Limitations
I wanted to leave feedback on an item I purchased which I believed required some amount of regular use before being informed enough to leave accurate feedback. I am pleased with the product. But I've come to find out that when an order is older than 60 days the ability to leave feedback for it is removed. I can't think of a good reason as to why that's the case. But it doesn't take a stretch of the imagination to think of a realistic scenario in which one intends to leave feedback. But that necessarily takes longer than 60 days.
In my case it's only that I use the product (actually a few related products) once a week and wanted to give it 10 uses before saying anything about it. I guess it's my fault for assuming that ebay would be at least as good as amazon in that regard (where I always have access to feedback and can edit it). The worse part of it is that the whole contact us part of the website just takes you through a seemingly endless cycle of multiple choice options. I never did actually get to the part where it let me voice this to an actual person. Taken with the past experience of trying to leave an actual review with the asinine filter they have. It make me wonder if they are even interested in improving. Or content to sink further into irrelevance as their parent company paypal has, with i's flat-out idiotic payment processing policies.
I have no high school diploma, nor credentials from any higher institution of learning. Not one bit of experience in the field. But I really do feel like I could run things better than they do. Because I pay attention to the little stuff and it really is the small slights and disappointments that add up to a worse experience and people taking their money elsewhere. Like when an internet browser tries to force you to use it's unique homepage. Or the option your looking for on a web form just isn't there.
Interested to hear what others think about all this and maybe someone who both cares and can do something about it will see it at some point.

·2 years agoAs others have stated, feedback is intended to rate the transaction, not the product itself... I could see an exception If the seller was the one who made or manufactured the item, but beyond that, feedback should only concern how well the seller did in packing, and shipping the item to your door. On a personal note, I don't think I've ever needed more than a couple weeks to determine a given item's worthiness.

The first answer is somewhat wrong, in that ebay used to give buyers 90 days to leave feedback, but found that people were using items and if they ceased working or some other issue popped up, they would leave negative feedback. That hurt sellers because as the last reply said Feedback is about how a seller performs not about the product. The questions asked when you go to leave feedback and/or give detailed seller ratings, should indicate that to you.
As for anyone who has the power to change policy seeing this post, it will not happen. The ebay employees who sometimes post on these do not have the power to make changes. Decisions like that are above their pay grade, and management above their level do not like being told or admitting they have made bad choices.

·2 years agoIn the earliest "Wild West" days there was no limit at all on how long you could leave feedback, nor were there any real rules about it. You could even leave feedback for someone you hadn't been in a transaction with. In the intervening 27 years eBay has worked diligently to make feedback fairer. Some of those efforts have been more successful than others.
Many people now seem to feel that feedback is the equivalent of an Amazon product review. It's more accurate, however, to equate it to the reviews Amazon nags you to do on their third-party sellers.

·2 years agoFeedback is not intended to be a review of the product. It's supposed to be a review of how the seller handled the transaction. You don't need more than 60 days to determine that.
eBay allows feedback to be given or received for up to 60 days. It’s been that way for as long as eBay has been in existence.
Why you ask? Because 60 days is long enough time to give your opinion on a transaction. That is basically what feedback is for, not a product review.
