Feed back process changing for the WORSE!!!
Summary: In the discussion titled "Feedback process changing for the WORSE!!!," participants expressed their concerns and dissatisfaction with recent changes to the feedback process. The main thread involved contributions from multiple participants, including vulcannomad1170, grann-4629, mudshark61369, and others, who articulated frustrations and uncertainties regarding these changes. Despite the active engagement and exchange of views, no consensus or clear resolution was evident in the posts.
I would like to provide feedback on the recent changes to the eBay rating system. By FORCING users to comment on the product rather than the transaction, you have diminished the utility of the feedback system. It is now difficult to differentiate between reliable sellers and poor ones. I strongly suggest separating product reviews from seller performance feedback to maintain marketplace trust.
So this is what I'm going to do: For all feedbacks asking about the product rather than the transaction I will post my DISSATISFACTION with this Process until it is changed back!
Been a member since 1999 and I see ebay going down the toilet! So SAD!

·4 months agoThe Ebay FB system was never intended to be effective.
It exists because of the large number of buyers and sellers who have unjustified expectations that it is effective.
All internet marketplaces know it is worthless but none want to take the PR hit associated with flushing it down.
Lots of Ebayers cling to it because they have nothing else going for them other than 100% FB.

OP4 months agoHere we go again. I wanted to leave a very nice & Positive feedback for my Seller, but ebay in there greedy ways lately, interrupted this process and only requested Feedback on the product itself. I had no way of rating the "Actual Sale Description" & "Shipping Costs". Again I feel this is NOT FAIR to both the Seller & Buyer! Here is what I left this time for an EXCELLENT TRANSACTION: "Feedback is meant to rate the transaction between the buyer and seller, not the product itself. I don't understand why eBay removes this option. The seller was excellent, the transaction went smoothly, the item was packed well, and I am very pleased with the camera's appearance. eBay owes both the seller and me an apology for this unnecessary interference with the feedback process."

"By FORCING users to comment on the product rather than the transaction, you have diminished the utility of the feedback system."
Nothing about this system is "FORCING" you to comment on the product itself -- you can skip right over that, and provide feedback only for the seller, if you wish.
I have not been "FORCED" by eBay to provide any comments on ANY transactions.
vulcannomad1170
OP4 months agoAnd How do I supposed to know that?? ESP? is there any other question about "SKIPPING"???
REALLY? if there are NO OTHER INFORMATION PROVIDED IS THAT FORCING???? OR DO I READ THE MIND OF EBAY PERSONEL AND "OH", YEA I JUST SKIP THIS. You must pardon me for I'm a novice here at ebay!
Oh, I just 2 full days trying to get hold of a person to call me back from ebay on another "skipping" problem. For all you "Suck ups" to ebay, it's really getting bad in the last couple of years!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

·4 months agoYep, you got it now, took awhile, but yes, just skip right over it since it is optional.

Whenever I leave feedback, I click Positive, leave a line of text for the seller, and click on some stars. Easy peasy.
I have never rated or reviewed a product, not this week, not ever.
vulcannomad1170
OP5 months agoso you saying it never happened or that I don't know how to leave Positive feedback for the seller? I've been using ebay since 1999, take a look at My feedback. This particular product, which the purchase went extremely well and I wanted to leave a very Good Positive feedback for the seller, but i guess ebay had something else in mind.

·5 months agoWell, you could say that you obviously didn't really research this before posting. No, Blackrock doesn't own eBay. EBay is a publicly traded company, meaning it is owned by a large, diverse group of shareholders, including individual investors and institutional, for-profit firms. As of early 2026 Blackrock owned about 9% of those shares, defining it as a minor shareholder. It's no more an owner than any other shareholder.

Oh my. I can't believe you actually left that feedback for that poor seller. And for nothing, since eBay has never monitored feedback comments unless they're reported. Even then they only care whether they violate policy. So you're punishing sellers because you're mad at eBay, and eBay will never take any action based on it.
BTW, I've been on eBay since '96, so I've got you all beat. When I first started you could leave feedback for anyone, whether you'd been in a transaction with them or not. It was the Wild West.
grann-4629
·5 months agoHey @kathiec When you started was eBay like a two colour board that was typical in those days? I seem to remember that before the fancy pages started showing up, or maybe it was a nightmare.
tks
kathiec
·5 months agoI don't know what you mean by "a two colour board"? The biggest thing I remember from the first couple years is that very, very few listings had photos of any kind. Digital photography was in its infancy so few sellers had digital cameras. Finally some sellers started getting images for listings by putting the item in their scanner and scanning a jpeg. I did that for a few of my earliest listings. Of course the other big difference was that Paypal didn't exist yet, so all payments were snail mail checks or money orders. Oh, and buyers could get negative feedback.
grann-4629
·5 months agoIt was like a simple list that you could scroll through. The clickable parts were in underlined blue text. I may be confusing this with another 'board' I used to participate on.
kathiec
·5 months agoEBay was never a 'board', so I'm not quite sure what you're confusing it with. Unless you're talking about the forums, which aren't what this post is about and have never been run by eBay. I don't even know if there were forums in 1996.
grann-4629
·5 months ago... which aren't what this post is about ...
Oops, I did it again .... asked a simple 'do you remember' question from a long time eBayer.
Very sorry for that. Obviously, I am at the wrong meeting!
Have fun ... it is an interesting discussion even though it tends to go off topic once in a while.
Come to think of it, they all do 😎😎
kathiec
·5 months agoRespectfully, no they don't all go off topic, nor should they. The purpose of this forum is to answer people's questions and address concerns about the buying process. It's not to just hang out and shoot the breeze about random topics. There are social forums for that; this is a help forum. EBay used to have a strictly social forum, which they discontinued a few years ago.
Sure, we've all gone on a tangent before, myself included. But when a thread veers into idle chit chat it pushes down new posts from people who actually need help.

OP5 months agoThe seller understands, since I did send a nice note stating that it's Ebay's fault and nothing he did. I stated I enjoyed his product, and it was well packaged. Why ebay is starting to do this with their feedback is beyond me! It isn't fair to the Seller.

·5 months agoI've also been a member since '99, congrats on that.
However, I don't see the problem you are complaining about. Everything is working as intended. You don't have to rate the product, I rarely do myself. Just stick to the feedback portion.
And maybe, just maybe, don't be a vindictive meanie about it.
I hope you have a better day tomorrow.

·5 months ago@vulcannomad1170 ,
Back in the 90s when we both joined ebay, Feedback was always about the transaction, not the product. Of course back then online product reviews were pretty much nonexistent.
While now ebay does have a star rating for the product, it does not have to be used in order to leave feedback. Just leave a feedback about the transaction and seller performance, if you do not want to rate the product.
Since you also sell on the site, how you you feel if one of your buyers left you a feedback like the ones you intend to leave for future transactions?
vulcannomad1170
OP5 months agoI explained this to the seller and he understood completely. I wrote him a nice note about the perfect transaction. It isn't Fair what ebay is doing and I can't understand why some people are defending Ebay. They also make it exceptionally difficult to make formal Complaints against ebay itself.
grann-4629
·5 months agoJust type your comments about the transaction in the text box, never mind the item rating. How would you rate a DVD that you probably won't watch for 6 months after the feedback deadline?
vulcannomad1170
OP5 months agoWish I would have known. It's Poor programming on ebay's part. But thank you for letting me know.
