Just got scammed by another ebay seller. I'm done with ebay. FedEx shows some stranger signed for my package and the address doesn't match.

·7 months agoYou can follow the instructions @rseuqinh provided which works much of the time, or open a dispute with your credit card issuer which works almost all of the time, and if the seller contests the claim and loses, will cost them the Ebay fees and an additional $20.
These sellers count on buyers filing the wrong type of claims and giving up.

·7 months agounfortunately I used PayPal and forgot my default was set to my PayPal MC CC, so, the purchase is linked to eBay so I have to start with eBay, the payment is linked to eBay, I can't just stop payment as the payment cleared to eBay already.
the other post said if he's new there's a 30 day hold on payment to the seller from eBay, so, hopefully I can get the squared away before his 30 days are up. (opened seller account jan 26).

·7 months agoHi @benjamin_888 You did the correct thing starting with eBay. eBay will not help if a credit card dispute is opened first. Credit card disputes are not sure things. They investigate and make a determination like everyone else, which could go either way. It's best to save them as a last resort.
To clarify, if eBay put a hold on payment to the seller, it was a hold not to release the money to the seller. It's to cover eBay, not you. eBay already took your payment. If you have a successful Item Not As Described claim, eBay will refund you. The hold is so eBay doesn't have to refund you from its own money. It will refund you from the the seller's money it is holding. The hold is exactly as long as you have to file a claim, thirty days. Good luck!

·7 months agoI got scammed, seller had 1 item, it's a very specific rare 65" 3D tv I had been searching for, most sellers are pickup only because of the size. I should not have done it, the seller was new and had no feedback or info, just the 1 item for sale. He gave me usps tracking day of sale and then messaged me thanking me for the sale and he would take a few days to get it out, this was on the 3rd. on the 10th the package was with usps across the country in FL (item location in listing: CA). Item was delivered and signed by S SOUTHERNSLAP (really?), I work evenings I was home so I checked neighbors etc., so, then I went to the post office and they told me the tracking was for a small 2oz pkg and it was delivered to a different address!
so, eBay wants me to report item not received by contacting the seller???? then I have to wait 3 days to dispute??? that's **bleep** Instead I reported suspicious activity, asking not to contact the seller.
"eBay moneback guarantee" yeah, that's the only reason I went for it. stupid, nearly $2K.
ADVICE: don't go for an item you want unless the seller checks out. I've purchased many items on eBay successfully doing this, but, I wanted this item, so, now I've been scammed. They may have even seen searches for this particular item and scammed me on purpose.

Before you dove into the deep end of the pool, you might've searched google for something like Will the USPS even accept a 65" tv for shipping. I did. I think there are some conditions that make it unlikely. Here's the response:

·7 months agoI did not realize this, I appreciate your comment, the weight was under 70 but, after reading your comment, I do wonder about another seller that states free shipping on the item.
now I understand why UPS gets a lot of large/heavy packages.
yeah, I actually was suspicious when they gave me a tracking number and then said it would take a few days, usually tracking is provided at time of shipping, or within a reasonable time (say 24 hours).

First off, in the future when you have an issue you need help with, do not piggy back it on another person's topic/conversation start your own.

Contacting the seller is only a suggestion, and you do not have to give them 3 days to reply, before you can open a dispute. However, when filing an Item Not Received dispute, you have to wait until one day after the last estimated delivery date, or there is a delivered scan before you can do that.
Once you have filed a dispute the seller has 3 days to respond.

That's one good thing in your favor. Because the seller is a new one ebay placed a 30 day hold on the payment. They do that to all new sellers and it causes a lot of problems with them. It may even be why they sent a 2oz, envelope some place, but that's a stretch.
If you open the link below and click on Go To Best Answer you can find out what you need to do to get a refund. Filing an Item Not Received dispute will not work because of the Delivered scan showing delivery someplace in your Zip code. Neither you or ebay can get the exact address from the USPS. However, if you open the link you wil find out how you can get the info you need to get a refund from ebay, without filing a dispute, by going through one of their social media platforms which are manned by actual ebay employees who have the power to issue refunds.

·7 months agoIt was not my intention to piggyback, I already contacted eBay for suspicious seller, asking them not to contact the seller on my behalf, so I wasn't looking for help yet, but, if I don't get an appropriate response I will definitely be back and post my own post, you have some information I did not know about, eBay seems to hide what I was actually needing, contact with an actual eBay employee.

·7 months agoIt's NOT YOUR PACKAGE and to prove it @stdillens_0 check the weight and dimensions for that tracking number at the FedEx website. Here is an example:
eBay didn't do this, so leaving eBay is not helpful. But eBay can get your refund back for you.
-- Just click RETURN THIS ITEM to start a return request for the MISSING PARTS OR PIECES reason.
-- If you don't get a refund, after 3 business days click Ask eBay to step in.
-- Or if your get a prepaid return label, send a printout of the FexEx tracking back to get your refund.

You made a purchase with a seller with no feedbacks and registered on February 6, 2026.
There's a reason sellers have feedbacks and such.
