Failure to intervene in matter of fraud and cybersecurity potential breach (3 Day "wait")
To the eBay Executive Resolution Team,
I am writing to formally escalate a matter that your frontline support team was unable — or unauthorized — to resolve.
On Feb 7 2026 I purchased a GIGABYTE NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 GAMING OC 24GB Watercooled graphics card (Item ID: 336423097291). Shortly after purchase, eBay removed this listing for a policy violation, confirming the seller was operating fraudulently on the platform.
Despite this, when I contacted eBay support by phone to request an immediate cancellation and refund, the agent would not escalate the resolution. I was told there would be a 3-day delay before any action could be taken — even after I identified the transaction as fraudulent and raised concerns about a potential cybersecurity breach to my financial information.
I want to be direct about what happened here: eBay's own enforcement systems identified and removed a fraudulent listing, yet eBay's support systems could not act on that same determination to protect the buyer who was already exposed. The fraud detection and buyer protection sides of your platform are not communicating, and I am the one absorbing the risk in that gap.
This raises serious questions:
- Why does eBay's policy violation enforcement not automatically trigger refund processing for affected transactions?- Why are support agents unable to escalate fraud-related cancellations beyond the standard 3-day hold?
- What steps is eBay taking to ensure my payment information has not been compromised by a seller that eBay itself determined was violating platform policy?
I have initiated a dispute through my payment provider. I have also documented eBay's listing removal, the transaction record, and the support interaction for regulatory filing if this matter is not resolved promptly.
I am requesting:
1. Immediate full refund of the transaction amount
2. Written confirmation that my payment information was not exposed to the fraudulent seller
3. An explanation of why frontline support could not act on an eBay-confirmed policy violation in real time
I have been both a buyer and seller on this platform. I expect the same urgency in protecting buyers from confirmed fraud that eBay applies when flagging seller accounts for unusual activity.

OP6 months agoIt is a tough crowd! I am the author of the content so I'd think it more a matter of the subject itself than the enjoyment factor causing the imbalance in post counts... And that, post counts... I now face a new criticism for my reply count.
Wouldn't most people reply when another writes things about them, to them, and even with the 'at' direction calling their attention?
The irony of it all: That letter was meant to get attention, but not here. Yet it's here that the letter is getting the most attention...
But exiting this one now - I'm persuaded.

Glad to hear that your issue/problem has been resolved. Have you read the Money Back Guarantee for buyers?
To clarify, there is no particular qualification required to post in this space. We're all fellow eBayers with varying degrees of experience. We volunteer our time here to help others when/we can. It makes sense that we are required to keep our replies civil.

A seller doesn't see your payment information or even how you paid.
The reason they don't automatically issue a refund is because they don't know if the seller shipped the item or not.

OP6 months agoCheers, and pardon the confusion - this was not intended for any seller, but internal parties with Ebay.
That said, I appreciate your time in highlighting the substance and sharing a reasoned reply.
Thanks.

As others have pointed out, once you escalate beyond ebay to your payment provider, expecting anything at all from ebay is moot - they have been removed from the equation, and have no authority beyond the boundaries of this site.

OP6 months agoThank you for your time.
I didn't want this to end up the spectacle - but I can see now how it would look a bit silly in the context of a fellow buyer/seller forum.
Just to shed light: When selecting "community", I thought it was a 'collective community' page for sharing on subject for the attention of platform decisionmakers.

About 99.9% of the time, there's no one here but community volunteers. We've basically become ebay's shortcut to customer service.
gulfcoasttechnerdz
OP6 months agoAppreciate knowing that. Since you have been authentically helpful here, be interesting to know how the pipeline goes from community-to-eBays service. My original issue (now resolved) was that very disconnect between who I was trying to reach and the walls I ran into.
And I'm guessing most other threads follow a more inviting style. But do admit I get how it looks - someone just drops in here with a brick of inflammatory and adversarial words...
Cheers and thanks again.

·6 months agoSince you went to your payment source, eBay is no longer in the picture. No point in working with eBay now, it is all up to your bank & you are on their timeline now.
Regardless of what you can show as fraud or misrepresentation, we all still need to follow ebay's time lines, there is no escalation, your transaction is not special...just follow the guidelines & MBG for full refund

OP6 months agoI disagree and believe the platforms objective is to create and maintain a space where our uniqueness is our value as a collective market.
We pay for the medium of transaction and virtual network of ready-to-buy clientele.
The message - if delivered (as I can certainly see now) properly to the team addressed, would not have served to do much more than escalate.
And as patrons of EBay's services, which in this case, we are the customers, we have avenues of grievance and our internal timelines.
I hope you can take my respectful disagreement with your assessment of what 'we need' to do and whether there is 'no point'. The point, unfortunately, is being made by way of the viral traction this errored-post placement actually gets. And I cannot take credit for this.
**Ebay has also since resolved the concern**
I'm not sure I'm the best fit for your guidance, but am thankful for your time.

·6 months agoYou are shouting at a wall. This is a forum of BUYERS and SELLERS.
There are NO EBAY EMPLOYEES HERE.

OP6 months agoTough crowd... I misunderstood the forum purpose; using the context of what you just re-shared:
"To The eBay Executive Resolutions Team", not, "To the Forum Leadership on the Community Threads"...
The matter is also resolved, so belaboring the issue now suggests some enjoyment of this whole production in the comments threads.

·6 months agoIt seems that you are the one getting enjoyment out of this thread. YOU have replied a total of 8 times (out of 18 responses). Almost all other responders only replied once.

Once you go to your cc, Ebay is completely out of the picture.

No seller can see your payment information, or even how you paid. You are making a mountain out of a molehill. You are a seller and dont know this?
gulfcoasttechnerdz
OP6 months agoI believe this is the best answer - and voted it so.
This was not intended for a buyer or seller (see top). This was intended to be received by an escalations group working within the EBay ranks. I'm sure what was offensive to you personally in my mistaken placement, but I assure I meant no harm.
And yes, I was precisely aiming to make a mountain of a molehill with the originally intended recipients. I had a grievance unsatisfactorily addressed.
I'm a systems designer, PC builder, reseller, and consultant for my customer base, but I don't claim to be more than a novice in navigating this platform.
Hope to have shed light on the 'whys'.

·6 months agoNo one would have guessed this from your original post which started this thread,
I am not aware of any major internet marketplace which makes your payment data available to sellers. It is one of the differences between an internet marketplace and an aggregation of individual websites under a single umbrella.
A seller has a name, which may be an alias different from the name he has through identity verification with Ebay for, and a shipping address, and whatever publicly available information is associated with your Ebay userID.
The seller may have been removed from the site for any number of policy violations, some of which might not have harmed any buyers but may have violated Ebay policy.
There are people here and on other marketplaces who have been involved in computer networking well before there was an internet, and we are more concerned with security than many internet sites. We would not be selling here if there was that blatant a loss of privacy and security.

·7 months agoPerhaps you are unaware of this, but, when you post here, you are not addressing the "eBay Executive Resolution Team" (and I'm not sure there is such a thing.
The responders here are all fellow eBayers who volunteer their time here to help others when they can. They are NOT eBay employees, nor do they have access to your eBay account.

OP6 months agoI'm not a seasoned expert in best avenues of communication, but here, clearly I've hit the community forum.
Thank you for the insight.
May I also suggest that those who do have the expertise also acknowledge the accompanying obligations when offering credentialed guidance?
Simply offering a polite note and nudge would suffice. It should have been self evident in the notice that my objective was not to drain the volunteers' time from more productive insights.
While just several months a member, I have been in this business (the business of small business). Let's virtually 'shake hands' and continue to support one another, and I'll close with my again saying thank you for the guidance.

·6 months agoNot sure I understand "accompanying obligations" and "credentialed guidance".
You told us about your issue. Several people responded and explained. What did you want from this forum that wasn't supplied.
As explained earlier, no one here is an eBay employee. eBay's MBG offers help if/when a transaction goes bad. When that happens, the buyer needs to follow the rules outlined in the MBG. Sometimes what a buyer wants and what the MBG offers are miles apart.

OP6 months agoWas signaling to the star profile as the credential method used for this space. Volunteers accept obligations when offering to serve, and recognizing this forum is a volunteer driven space (and me being newer). I honestly never intended to deposit the text in a community space...
Fortunately the matter is resolved and appreciate the community's help in identifying avenues best for raising grievance and other things.
