eBay will not let me bid on an item out of country
Hello, I live in Canada; however I live close to the US Border and can have items shipped to a store there that receives parcels.
I want to bid on an item for auction on eBay.com but when I try to bid, it says I cannot place a bid because the seller is in the USA but has not specified shipping to my country (Canada).
eBay doesn't seem to recognize that I can have the item shipped to the US where I can go pick it up.
Is there a solution to this?

·1 year agoAs a seller, I have my settings set to only ship domestically. However, I do occasionally ship to Canada, but only after the buyer lets me know that they wish to buy one of my items and ask if I can ship there. You might message the seller and ask, it probably wouldn't hurt.

·1 year ago2024/2025 update. I had a Canadian buyer change his shipping address to Illinois(house). Ebay will charge you an International fee even if shipping to USA address. Mine was $2.94. I guess Ebay is paranoid and thinks it's a freight forwarder which it is not. Buyer was understanding and actually paid the extra fee. Not alot of money but Ebays fees are already enough.

·1 year agoIt's not about paranoia or freight forwarders, it's about international banking transactions. The fee is based on where the buyer banks, not on their address.

·1 year ago@nobody*s_perfect, actually, it isn't anymore. That's how it worked when PayPal processed the payments, and how it works with most credit cards, but with eBay Managed Payments, it only depends on the buyer's registered or shipping address.

Both of the previous replies are correct. However, if you have already tried to buy from a seller and were blocked because of your Canadian address, you may not be able to buy from them in the future, even if you use a U.S. address as your primary one.
That would happen because when you were blocked by the seller's buyer requirement that automatically blocks "buyers who: Live in a location I do not ship to". You were added to their blocked buyers list (BBL). Many sellers also block communications from buyers on their BBL, so contacting them may be impossible from a listing page.
If that happened, After adding the U.S. address and making it your primary one, you could try contacting the seller using the Contact member button on their feedback profile page. Tell the seller you live close to the border and have an address in the U.S. you can pickup packages from, but you forgot to make it your primary one and were blocked from bidding. Ask if they will remove your username from their BBL. They might be willing to do that.

·2 years agoBuyers who are blocked by a seller's site preferences are not automatically added to the seller's Blocked Bidders list.

·2 years agoActually, the buyer block is based on the location of the buyer’s primary shipping address, not the buyer’s country of residence or registration, so the scenario you’re referring to is not possible from that perspective. Once the buyer changes their primary shipping address to one in the United States, they’ve fulfilled the seller’s shipping location requirements and they’re free to bid or purchase.

·2 years agoGo to your settings > personal info > addresses > shipping address, add the US address, then make it your default primary address @harpy0326 - let us know if that works.

·2 years agoDo you have the address of that store set up as your shipping address in your "My eBay"? If not, fix that, and you should be able to bid on the item.
Just remember to change it back later if you want your future purchases sent to Canada.
