eBay will not honor a 10% discount code I applied on a binding agreement.
Hello all,
I recently made a purchase on some sneakers using promo code FRESHKICKS10. I made an offer of $430 + $14.95 shipping. At checkout I entered the code and the total was showing as $401.95. That's exactly what I expected to pay. This morning the offer was accepted and my credit card was declined. I went to submit payment again and the new total was $444.95.
I just called eBay and the customer service said they don't allow promo codes on offers. Well that's great to know after the fact that you changed our binding agreement. I get stuck in an agreement but they change the price. How is this legal? Why do they even have a promo code box on offer windows if it's not allowed?
What can I do?
The customer service thanked me for being a member for over 20 years. This is a great way to thank me. Is eBay really this petty? This is pathetic.

·2 years agoIt's clearly stated in the T&C of promos that they can't be used in conjunction with offers, whether those are offers you send or the seller sends. Last year I put an item on my watchlist, listed by a seller offering a 15% discount on all her listings. I then received an auto-generated offer for the listing I was watching. Problem was that the discount on the offer was less than the 15% store coupon. Because I actually checked the promo terms before I took any action I knew the two couldn't be combined. I had to let the offer expire before I could purchase with the promo.

·2 years agoThose promo codes and coupons have conditions out the wazoo. They never seem to apply to what you want to buy.

·2 years agoIt's exasperating @benson699 that we tell you that you can't use a coupon code to make an offer, isn't it? When it is there -- right there on the make offer page:
But what might be happening is you may have to jump down at the eBay Checkout page when you make your manual payment (after your credit card was declined on the autopay) to enter the coupon code again in that same Discounts area at eBay Checkout, likely the reason why you're seeing an "uncouponized" total.

·2 years agoThere could have been no binding agreement; you can't use codes on offers and besides that, most sellers are using autopay for offers now so how would you plan to apply the coupon code since your offer would automatically be charged to your payment method if accepted by seller?

OP2 years agoWhat I mean by binding is that I hit submit offer. The next window showed my the total plus shipping. The discount was applied to my offer. It was binding because I am committed to buy if the seller accepts the offer. Of course the seller can reject it. The did not. They accepted it. If eBay doesn't want buyers to use promo codes on offers then why is it even an option?

A more accurate statement would be; many/most sellers do not know they were secretly opted into Auto pay now".

·2 years agoThe first thing you need to do is go back and read the Terms & Conditions of the promo code. I suspect if you do one of them will be that the code can't be used on offers. I know that most people don't bother to read the fine print before jumping in, but not doing so isn't something you can pin on eBay.
