Ebay System Error, Pursuing Reimbursement
Hello,
History: I bought a crystal lamp shade on Ebay. Right before I placed the order, I changed my address in Ebay. When the order went through, Ebay gave the seller my old address, so the lamp shade went there. I asked the current residents to forward the lamp shade on to me. They did so--through FedEx without opening it. It cost $115.58 in shipping. I have spent hours trying to get Ebay to reimburse me for the extra shipping since they system did not update promptly. However, I have not been able to do more than talk to people with scripts. How can I escalate this up the chain of command and get someone to hear me as a person?

OP1 year agoI did check it and change it. Systems can make mistakes.

Go to your Account now … and look at the FIVE address fields available to edit.
What address does EACH of them show?
You MUST do this before you can say that ‘Systems make mistakes’.
[PLEASE … humor us.]

EBay will never reimburse you. Every single time you check out the shipping address is shown on the checkout screen, along with the option to change it. That would have been the time to notice it was wrong.

·1 year agoDid you mark the new address as primary and delete the old one? Sometimes helps to do a history/cache clear so any old information can be purged.
Don't assume that just adding a new address is going to use that address for a shipment,
that needed to be confirmed on the shipping page before hitting pay.

The seller is required to ship it to the address provided by the buyer at checkout.

·1 year agoHi @pabrewe_34
There are FIVE address fields under Personal Information in our account. Changing our registration address doesn’t change the other four automatically.
The ‘Ship to’ address appears in the upper-left corner of the Checkout screen before we pay for the item we just purchased. THAT is where we need to change our address (for that purchase) if it isn’t the one we want.
Have you checked ALL the addresses in your account? I have the feeling your old address is still among them. Please let us know what you see there.

OP1 year agoAll have been changed, but I may have missed one. It seems unfair that there are so many. How does the average person know that there are five to change as opposed to six? seven?

The average person doesn’t know how many fields there are … but many buyers send items as gifts occasionally, so should be checking the ‘Ship to’ address on the Checkout screen each time they pay for the current item.
I don’t believe you could have checked the ‘Ship to’ address when you placed your order. Many people forget to do that consistently, which is OUR fault.
