eBay supports counterfeit auto parts sellers
If you are a Ford owner looking for Motocraft parts on eBay you probably noticed the sea of genuine looking Motocraft packaged parts at huge discount - 95% cheaper then the dealer. These are fake Motocraft parts from China, that have been flooding the eBay market for many years now. Looking at the history of posts and pictures the fake "Motocraft" packages have evolved - past labels looked genuine, but upon close inspection there were obvious grammatical errors in the wording on the labels, as if someone from China used Google translate for the fine print on the package label. Several years later these counterfeit sellers have worked out those errors, and the counterfeit parts you buy today read just like a genuine Ford package.
Before I knew better I purchased several counterfeit sensors and parts for my F250, and then quickly realizing after the part failed or didn't fit, that I had been scammed. These ebay sellers are quick to apologize, and refund your money. As-if this rights their wrong for selling counterfeits.
Counterfeit parts can cause the vehicle to suffer abrupt mechanical failure, which can lead to injury or loss of life. It can also damage the engine or the electrical system of the vehicle.
I have concluded after talking to sellers, reporting sellers, and attempting to contact eBay directly that they are either complacent with this counterfeit operation, or they are benefiting from it - as in the sales of counterfeit motorcraft parts is both lucrative for criminal sellers, and eBay sees some of those proceeds.
eBay has made it very difficult to contact anyone at their company about this issue. All their "Contact Us" links enter the users into an infinite loop away from contacting their support - hence I am writing this on a public forum and hoping someone cares to read it.
The next step is to seek out a legal agency that specializes in investigating corporate criminal activity, or to post the findings of my experiences and investigation to local news agencies in the hopes that this information is published for all to see.

·2 years agoCounterfeit goods are a fact of life today, whether on eBay, Amazon, Etsy, or even Walmart. The fact that the price was 95% below manufacturers list price should have been a huge red flag.

·2 years agoAmazon is the same way with counterfeit parts and it's every brand being counterfeited and flooding the market not just motorcraft.
There are a very few legitimate listings, some dealerships use ebay for their online sales. But if it's not a dealer/authorized retailer selling the new parts on ebay/Amazon they are almost certainly fake.

·2 years agoThese counterfeit parts sellers are getting more and more deceitful too. They take pictures at angles that are hard to see the key places on a part, and they are starting to list the counterfeit parts closer to what a good deal would be on a genuine part. Used to be able to buy good parts on eBay. I haven't used them in years because they consent to the scam.

OP3 years agoThe sellers are quick to ship the item, and quick to refund it when it breaks. I verified for the 3 counterfeit items I purchased all 3 sellers are from China. They beg me to remove the negative feedback even though they refunded. Sorry guys.. just because you refunded me doesn't make it right. They continue to sell their counterfeit inventory to other people.
What gets me is eBay is silent in this. Like every other criminal corporation they'll milk the dirty money until it becomes too costly to not do anything about it. It takes a news article or a lawsuit for them to respond. And when they do they play dumb, hire lawyers, and get fined nothing compared to what they made during the scheme.

·3 years agoYou have to avoid those too good to be true priced items. If the seller ships at all, you can be sure if's a fake.

·3 years agoAlmost 99% of the time that you see a part or item for 95% off, you can be pretty sure that it's a knockoff. Go an open an item not described case immediately. YOU WILL STOP COMMUNICATING with the seller. Completely ignore everything. In 3 days or so, the seller is supposed to send you the shipping label or $ to return the item. Be careful if you get funds because it's very expensive to return an item back to China. Insist on a shipping label. Of course, he/she can't provide one because they are outside of the USA. After the time that you see on the case arrives, GO BACK to the case and ESCALATE IT. It might say "Ask ebay to step in or help." Then you should get your refund. Then go to a reputable place and buy the part that you need.

·3 years agoYou would be better off reporting to to Ford instead of Ebay. They have to be the one to make the claim of counterfeit items. Ebay does not make that call and yes, they make money off any sale.
