EBAY Still double dipping
I recently checked my running balance on my bank acct. that I use for purchases on ebay, and ebay is still double dipping on every purchase I make. To anyone out there who still thinks that the duplicate charges showing up on their banks running balance are the results of a "hold" and a "charge", are WAY WRONG. Ebay is deducting the purchase amt. twice. My bank assured me that there was no hold going on there, otherwise the running (available) balance would not be going down with each duplicate charge. That money is taken out of your account and then within 3-5 days returned back in to your account. I called ebay and after speaking with a few different people was told that there is some sort of glitch. She said they had other complaints about this, which left me surprised that she even copped to that little tid bit. It has been 2 weeks since i spoke to ebay about this, and this is still happening to me. It must be great getting interest free loans

·2 years agoYou will see this hold linger on weekends and holidays...when banks aren't open. It has nothing to do with eBay. Gas stations, grocery stores, pretty much everyone who takes debit/credit cards will place a pre-authorization hold on the funds. It's SOP.

Sounds like an authorization hold was not removed in a timely fashion i.e. when the real payment was charged. eBay seems to have difficulty with this on occasion. Typically the "hold" money will not be available to you until the hold is released.

·2 years agoThe "available balance" is not the actual balance. The "available balance" goes down because of the hold, that is how the hold works to make sure you have the cash/credit available to pay the later actual charge. The money is still in your account (none is transferred to eBay) but you simply can't spend it until the hold ends and the "Pending" transaction is removed.

·2 years agoExactly. I just paid my credit card bill the other day-- the money hasn't actually left my account yet, but my "available balance" has gone down because that money has been put on hold until the charge clears. I can't spend it on something else because it's been allocated for that charge.

@yuzuha
That is correct. The problem arises when the actual CHARGE is made and the HOLD is not released. It appears to the buyer that they have been charged twice since they still can't spend the "HOLD" money either.
This is a function of the MERCHANT, not the buyer's bank. The merchant of record is eBay.

·2 years agoIt’s taking 3 days for EBay to release the funds back to my bank. Guess I won’t be shopping on EBay anymore tired of them controlling my money.

OP2 years agoBut, is there a double, meaning 2 times the credit card payment showing as not available, or just your one payment that you made???????

·2 years ago@ljsp888 If you purchase fuel using a debit card or credit card you will see the same thing. It is a hold!

·2 years agoYes, that's a hold put on the funds.
Once the payment is complete, the hold is released.
I have been an eBay member for 20 years and never was charged twice for an item unless I clicked and purchased 2 or more of the same item. Having this happen multiple times I would look at my purchase history to see what was purchased and how many. eBay doesn't just go into your bank account and take money.
Customer service lately, is notorious for telling you exactly what you want to hear to get you off the phone.

If there is one thing eBay is good about, its not stealing your money.
Directly from your bank account. ðŸ˜

·2 years agoYou should be aware that eBay customer service is pretty much useless and will tell you what you want to hear to get you off the phone even if that means lying to you. I seldom purchase anything off of eBay these days but I pay for all my purchases with PayPal and I have never been charged twice for an item. If there is a glitch you need to contact eBay through one of the social media sites as opposed to their first level customer support. At least after 3-5 days they are depositing the second charge back into your account.
