Ebay requesting payment method when submitting an offer???
I was trying to make an offer on an item and it asked for payment before I submitted the offer. Has anyone else seen this? I edited my address out for obvious reasons.

·2 years agoYes, this has just started for me. It is a right pain as I like to use Apple Pay to pay for my winning bids and offers, this is not compatible with this system.

·2 years agoI have an issue with the new system as it auto assigned one of my forms of payment as default without the option to choose the method at the time of making the offer. Is this a bug?

OP2 years agoYou have to go into you ebay account settings and delete your choosen payment everytime you want to change your payment method that is locked in. For example let's say you use Paypal and want to use your bank account on one offer and your credit card via payal on another. You have to wait for your first offer to expire or be declined and then delete your selected payment within ebay by clicking on your user name>> setting>>> payment method>> enter pass>>> DELETE.

·2 years agoAvoid using public computers or unsecured Wi-Fi networks when entering sensitive payment information.
Be cautious if the platform asks for excessive personal information beyond what is necessary for the transaction. Also, be wary of any platform that pressures you into providing payment information quickly.

·2 years agoI tried to unlink the Paypal account and it seemed to work for a day or so where I got the 404 page instead of it showing the page you posted.
But now, it defaults back to my Paypal with the Make Offer button enabled. Also the fine print below indicates it will link the account so that this pop up doesn't come up again... which means it would be easier for eBay to charge money to our Paypal accounts without a secondary confirmation.
I am still trying to find out how to unlink my Paypal account from ebay. At this point, I think the only option is to delete my eBay account.

·3 years agoIt really comes down to one thing. If you got the money you will buy it if you don’t have the money you wont and you certainly wont hold the seller up for days with wishful thinking that they have actually made a sale on here.

OP3 years agoIn the short term this will likely stop users from buying on the ebay platform. The fact this this has spread to bidding is just stupid. The employees making these decisions need to be fired. I've already opted out of Mismanaged payments and I can opt out of buying too.

·3 years agoYes, it's pretty much standard now. Too many buyers were making offers and then not paying when they were accepted by the seller.

·3 years agoAll I can tell you is it started as ebay putting buyers in a test group nearly a year ago, as I recall being told.
Every offer I've made in the last six months has had the payment requirement. I recall someone posting on here that some sellers have found ways around it... Maybe you're just charmed.

OP3 years agoEbay is doing what they can to drive buyers and sellers away. It is really sad to see such a high level of incompetence ruin this platform.

·3 years agoI expect most sellers are happy with the instant payment now with best offer, after having been shafted so many times by non paying 'buyers'. And if most buyers really want the item, whats wrong with paying instantly?

I don't like ebay AUTO paying ANYTHING... I've had so many issues as a seller with their AUTO fee deduction which completely ignored my fee discounts that should have been applied. The end result was me having to call in to get it resolved, sometimes twice, once three times. I have yet to opt into mismanaged payments.

Perhaps the buyer would like to combine multiple items from the same seller. Maybe the seller would like to get multiple sales from the same buyer, but are unaware of the consequences of the default choice. Combined items for one price is not possible with this program nor the one for supplying the payment source in order to bid. Buyers pay more, sellers pay more, and of course eBay has found a way to make more money.
If eBay truly wanted to solve the unpaid item problem, they should simply get rid of the buyers who do not pay. It is a simple matter to disallow another account from the same person, just like they do with sellers. Instead they provide a bad buyer experience, and don't care. EBay simply enrolls more and more buyer IDs in this instead.
If a seller's fear of NPBs is greater than their need of money, they will never know how many buyers simply did not succumb to the new requirements when those preferences remain in the default mode. eBay is certainly not going to post the information to the seller's log...that 175 people chose not to proceed. No more combined shipping, not more request total, can't use seller coupons or promotions, cant use eBay coupons, can't use spendable funds, can't use PayPal credit, or PayPal Pay in 4, or GooglePay or Apple Pay.
Limiting buyer choices for buyers is the new eBay norm.

·3 years agoIf sellers can't afford to wait 4 days then they should stop whining and just list items with BIN requiring immediate payment and not include the B/O option. In 20 years on ebay I've never had an unpaid item and never plan too. I am also not going to let ebay make charges on my card w/o me reviewing it first, I've seen too many glitches on ebay to allow that.
My life also doesn't revolve around ebay deliveries. I am usually out of town 50% of the time and bid and make offers during that time knowing I have the 4 days to pay. I certainly don't want immediate payments and items being delivered when nobody is there.
In addition. sellers already have their buyer requirement settings to weed out non-payers, 2 unpaid strikes and your out. Meanwhile buyers can't get a simple sellers block list to block deadbeat sellers.
Until ebay can guarantee everything I pay for will be shipped and exactly as described, buyer's should not have to guarantee anything either.
A MBG claim takes a lot longer than 4 days for buyers to be refunded. and if buyers have to wait 6 calendar days, including weekends, just to ask ebay to step in, sellers can wait too, it's a 2 way street. I just had to wait aprox. 3 weeks for my money to post back to my card on two items through the MBG. I find it comical ebay sellers are complaining about having to wait the 4 days to simply relist the item for the minority of non-payers .

You misunderstood, has nothing to do with a seller waiting four days to get paid. Has everything to do with the 'buyer' not paying at all after a best offer is made.

·3 years agoHaving prepayment pop up is a hassle. I won’t use it - sellers that have this requirement won’t get my business. That is their choice.
Issue for me is that I don’t want holds placed on my credit card. When I spree buy, I’m big on offers - that is very common with what I usually buy. And my success rate is probably less than 50%. I make a lot of fair but “lowball†offers.
It must have been June - made around $2,000 in offers, ended up with about $1,100 worth of items. That was over ~15 lots, several of those with combined shipping that would have been impossible with the prepayment requirement.
Good news is that - seemingly - my sellers have ditched the prepayment requirement. A lot of them were using it when it rolled out - it was pretty frustrating. This spree, I didn’t encounter it once.
None of this is about not wanting to pay. I pay for all of my purchases - and I do it as soon as the offers are accepted and combined shipping is applied. And, yep, I pay my credit cards in full every month.

·3 years agoThe only problem with this is that you can't get combined shipping. Ebay is ONLY driving away the deadbeats and the people that take days to pay. If you only want one item and you are willing to make an offer, then you are willing to pay for that item rightaway.
Some people don't like it because they use different credit cards to buy stuff and I guess, they forgot which card they owe less on.

·3 years agoI thought the sole purpose of this was to "drive away" non-payers. Are you now saying paying within the allowable 4 day minimum is a problem too? Luckily I have never had this happen to me yet. I deal with many repeat sellers that allow me up to 3 weeks to bid on items for combined shipping. To me it seems very smart for sellers to allow more time, not less. It keeps me loyal to watching and bidding all their items and even if I don't win them all I help bid up even the ones I lose. This policy seems very close-minded to me.

·3 years agosellers can opt out of the requirement by going to "buyer requirements", and unchecking the box.
It is still a "test". Not all "buyers" are in the test.
There is now a "requirement" to provide a payment source before "bidding" on auctions.
Again, this program, as with "offers" is also only in the "test" phase for some "buyers".
Sellers will find that they have also been opted into this with the "buyer requirement" box auto check marked by eBay for bidders on auctions.

·3 years agoI have had multiple offers not get paid, sellers have been complaining of ghost accounts making best offers them getting accepted and then not making payments. Having to wait 4 days to cancel the order. So ebay is trying to make the sellers happy. Now buyers are upset.

·3 years agoAs a buyer only, I’m not upset..simply move on and seller lose a sale..in some cases, if I like the item, I send a message to seller and he/she agrees on the offer and submit to me, I’ll buy it..did it today twice..most important for me that seller responds in timely manner..

I tend to disagree. eBay is trying to monetize a problem for their own gain.
They want to make sellers happy? Get rid of the non-payers and prevent them from getting a new account. Problem solved.

I have the money. Before this debacle I USED to buy over a couple of K$ a month. My ID is 25 years old, has thousands of feedback, and NEVER an unpaid item strike. Now I won't bid so long as I am unable to combine multiple wins from the same seller for a combined invoice. If a seller does not want my money because they fear I won't pay, that is their choice. They can limit their buyer pool any way they like and only accept offers or bids from everyone else. They can cancel bids from those bidders not yet forced into the program to really make sure they don't have an NPB. Too bad for them if I was going to bid $200 over the ending sale price. They will never know what they are missing anyway since eBay will not provide the stats for those of us who elected not to play this new game and backed out.
The buyer can still play the "cancel" card after the fact. There is no limit to block buyers who request the cancels as sellers had for those with unpaid item strikes.

·3 years agoIf you don't understand programming, we sites and networking, it is literally impossible to stop people from signing up again. You would literally have to block ip's and ip's change all the time and the next person to get that up would be blocked from signing up.

·2 years agoFor me as a buyer, all this is really gonna accomplish is to make me automatically avoid any seller that opts into this disgusting policy... if someone is truly gonna demand instantaneous payment for an item without me even being sure they're willing to accept my offer in the first place, then, frankly, I'd rather just take my money elsewhere.
