eBay Report Status
Summary: The discussion centers around reporting a seller on eBay who uses his personal website address in listings, allegedly violating eBay's policy, yet eBay found no issues with it according to one participant. nickscc highlights this potential policy violation but expresses confusion and frustration over eBay's response. albertabrightalberta advises 1950rek to move on from the issue, noting reports are kept on record and a decision will be made by eBay if enough complaints are compiled. Another participant, gone.c-33, mentions that moderators are no longer present in the discussion.
Last August 1st 2025, I reported a seller sending a business card, INSTEAD of my order, offering discounts to buy OFF of eBay. eBay has yet to decide if the seller violated any rules. How to I check the status of eBay report # 2-196790713349?

You really need to get over this.
You've been told repeatedly that there's no way for you or any of us to check the status of a report submitted to ebay.
On August 1, 2025, you did the right thing in reporting the seller and your report is on the seller's record. If and when there are enough reports on record, ebay may (or may not) take action but it's not your concern nor is it the concern of any of us.
Let it go! It's not good to hold on to such menial issues for so long. You got your money back, your report was recorded and it's over for you.

·3 months agoWhat about reporting a seller that uses his personal website address in nearly 7k listings and all over his store? Yes, there is no physical link but if you go to this website you can purchase off eBay thus violating eBay's policy. You would think it's a slam dunk but eBay came back with a message saying they found no problems with the seller listing his website. So I guess it's ok? Open season on listing websites?

The question, in the original post, as shown at the top of the page is:
" How to I check the status of eBay report # 2-196790713349?"
I didn't dislike the responses that didn't answer my question. I wondered how my question seemed to ask more than the words indicate.

The seller has privacy rights that Ebay respects.
Ebay has learned that many reports of listings are malicious and cannot be relied upon. It generally counts reports and does not act. It is more likely to act upon listing and sellers who have a pattern of Ebay Money Back Guarantee claims for items not as described.
1950rek
OP4 months agoWhile eBay has learned that many reports of listings are malicious and cannot be relied upon, the business card sent to me instead of my purchase, that shows an offer to buy off of eBay, speaks for itself. The seller's feedback shows a pattern of the same ruse. Yes, the seller has a right to continue that eBay supports.

OP8 months agoAfter a nowhere AI chat, I talked to eBay assistant "John". He advised me to reopen the report, and "guided" me, step by step. The procedure was the same one I used to file my previous reports. I await the outcome
that "John" claimed would be issued to me considering the offer to buy outside of eBay is supposed to be forbidden. He thanked me again and again for alerting eBay of the seller's conduct. I alerted eBay last August 2025, and since then, the seller's negative feedback shows the same ruse.

Zip, Zero, allowing one of their "top sellers" to continue their ruse. Oh well, as the saying goes,

Yep. And eBay still won't tell you the outcome of your "re-opened" report. Upward and onward and all...

You got no results because you mistakenly just reported the seller rather than opening an item not as described return. Had you done so within 30 days of receiving the business card you not only would have been refunded, the seller's metrics would have been negatively impacted. It doesn't take many of those for a seller to be booted. Money Back Guarantee cases have far more impact on sellers than reports do.

OP4 months agokathiec,
How did my post about an eBay Report Status, read like "I mistakenly JUST reported the seller?
I DID receive a refund. The seller's feedback indicate the same ruse is in play. The seller has NOT been booted. Consider: Analyses are only as good as the assumptions that they are built on...

·4 months agoWhen a buyer reports a seller, the result of that report isn't always made known to the buyer. eBay does not always "boot" that seller.
If this report was that long ago, why not just move on?

The community discussion boards are public and anyone reading the posts can respond. Just because you were responding to someone else doesn't mean that others of us can't reply or ask you a question.
soh.maryl
·4 months agoNo, you did not ask me a question. But this Board is open to everyone to comment or not; however, given your stance here, I will DEFINITELY avoid posting on any thread where you're involved.
And there's a great difference between the scenario you describe and an eBay public forum.
But thanks for the heads up.

·4 months agoThe good news is you've been refunded for your purchase, so you've been made whole again. I would not worry about what the seller is up to, or if eBay doesn't find the listings to be in violation.
The fact of the matter is, this seller cannot reasonably continue this so long as other buyers report and file INADs. Eventually they'll be a.) inundated with negative feedback to the point nobody is foolish enough to buy from them, and b.) booted from the site for repeated defects with tons of returns and INAD cases.
The seller's actions will catch up to them with time. Go forth and enjoy life.

·4 months agoReread my post. It in no way even intimated that you had JUST reported the seller. It merely explained why your actions of nearly a year ago didn't result in the actions you wanted. Hopefully you would take the opportunity to learn from it, but apparently not.
It's time to face reality: You reported the seller the wrong way, if people opened return cases instead of just complaining in feedback the seller would likely be gone, and 10 months is way too long to hang onto something like this. EBay wasn't going to give you the results of your report back then, and I'm sure they can't even access them now.

·4 months agoGo outside. It is almost summer. The air is fresh. There is this green stuff that grows that kids love to run barefoot in. Take your shoes and socks off, and go outside and touch that green stuff with your feet. It will ground you. You'll sleep better. Then you won't have to worry or stress over things that won't matter to you 5 years from now.
For everyone else, I now have a mere 4964 free spaces left on my BBL.

·4 months agoThat's usually the ONLY notice you get after reporting a seller or listing lol
If you already reported the seller twice with those results they're probably going to ignore any more reports from you about this seller.

·4 months ago@1950rek
When you reported the listing, ebay didn't find anything wrong with it because there probably was nothing wrong with it. That's why you bought the item from the listing, right? The problem is, the seller didn't send you the item that he listed. eBay has no way of knowing whether a seller actually sends the item that they advertise. That is why eBay has its Money Back Guarantee, so that buyers are protected from this nonsense.
Just reporting the seller does no good as far as your getting a refund. If you get something other than what was advertised, you have 30 days from date of receipt of the item to file a return claim. When you do that, the seller will issue a return label for you to return whatever it is you received and upon the seller's receipt of the package, they have to refund you, or if they choose, they can just refund without the return of the item. (Please understand if/when this happens, you must file an "Item Not as Described" return claim because you did not receive the item that was advertised. If you file an Item Not Received claim, you will lose because tracking will show that you did receive a package.)
Since it has been about 9 months since this happened, you may be out of luck. You can try filing a chargeback with your payment source (credit card company) but you may be too late for that; you will just have to check and see.
1950rek
OP4 months agopickapaper,
I did get a refund because of the seller's nonsense.
How did the ONLY question I asked, "How do I check the status...?" become:
"That's why you bought the item from the listing, right?"
or
"That is why eBay has its Money Back Guarantee, so that buyers are protected from this nonsense."
or
"Just reporting the seller does no good as far as your getting a refund."
soh.maryl
·4 months agoAgain, eBay normally does not divulge the status of a complaint. We recommend that you just move on.
