eBay "Report a seller" is terrible with AI response
Summary: kbeat2 purchased TPMS sensors advertised as "Genuine Motorcraft" but received non-OEM items. Despite contacting the seller, the sensors didn't work with their vehicle, and an AI-based response from eBay dismissed the complaint without human review. msha3839 suggested the buyer should have verified the authenticity upon receipt, sparking a defensive exchange. lacemaker3 advised filing a defect report instead of targeting the seller, offering a constructive solution. yo0339 and lady_madonna also commented on reporting and troubleshooting, guiding kbeat2 on possible next steps for resolution.
I purchased a set of "Genuine Motorcraft" TPMS sensors, pictures and descriptons all showed OEM. When they arrived they were not Motorcraft, no Ford identification at all, I contacted the seller and was told "It was just packaging, they are OEM and OK to use. Just let us know if you have any issues." Well, needless to say I had them installed and none of them are identified by my vehicle (Which is listed in the description) I have done this many times before and have never had an issue. I tried to contact the seller and of course they no longer respond so I started a "Report the seller" complaint with eBay due to the fact they were, and still are, selling these as genuine Motorcraft. No more than 5 minutes after I sent the report eBay responded that their AI had reviewed it and sees no issue, not really sure how much clearer it could be and I see no way to appeal the AI response. There is no way I can see to contact a real person so I will probably shy away from eBay and deal with other platforms where I can.
I went to a box of 12 year old sensors from another car and all of the trained to the new vehicle fine, so it's only the new sensors.
Now I have these installed on my vehicle, none of them work and I'll have to pay for a new set (Obviously not through eBay) and pay to have them removed/installed while the seller is still peddling them as genuine to unsuspecting buyers. Thanks eBay

·1 week agoIt sounds like all you did is report the listing, which was useless, instead of properly filing a dispute, which would be a Return Request due to "item does not match the listing/photos". This should have been done when you received the order without the proper markings.

·1 week agoI just asked AL and she said:
Well, that was a pretty much useless response.

OP1 week agoYep, I know, I should have done that. Just didn't think about it at the time since I have done a dozen of these before without an issue. That's my fault, I understand that. I was just trying to get eBay to save others from the same issue.
Someone else commented I should have just returned them. Again, I bought them because they were listed as OEM. I use platforms like eBay and Amazon because I live in the boonies and it's a long drive the post office or any other shipper, I just expect that these platforms would respond if sellers are listing items incorrectly, not have an AI bot act or not act on it. At least give me a place to dispute their finding.

·1 week agoBUT they were not OEMas the listing stated. IT is a clear case of item not as described which is your only avenue ton receive a full refund.

·1 week ago@kbeat2 , in this situation, you need to report the item you received as defective, or not as described, or counterfeit. The item, not the seller.
You will probably be asked to return the defective items, but the seller will have to pay for that, and you have to remove them anyway.
Once the seller has had a few not-as-described cases against them, eBay will take action to stop the seller from having the chance to do it again.
kbeat2
OP1 week agoI'll do that. Thanks for the response.

·1 week agoIf you noticed that there is no markings on the package by Ford/Motorcraft, you could return and not just trust seller blindly…time to grow up..

OP1 week agoWell, that was a pretty much useless response. Not sure why you would bother spending the time to write it. Maybe you missed the title and body of the text, the issue I have is the automated AI response to an issue eBay is supposed to care about. If the seller is still selling the item to others as OEM it should be stopped. That IS what their system is supposed to do, but the lack of a person to review it makes it pretty much useless, kind of like your response.
