OP3 years agoI need to do a follow up. Ebay Motors & Auto Parts has compition... Yipee!!! So for all the negative Post out here who really don't know anything about working on cars and the hassells espeacially THE SO CALLED LIFETIME WARRENTEES. Yes it does on occasiaons take longer than 30 days to install parts... Just for an example you could be doing a rebuild and have to order from multipal sellers which could take alot longer to get everything back in the car. Or for whatever reason Lets just say you get covid or it snows 2 feet or you're old and just don't want to rush or what ever you just might need more than a 30 day protection plan.
Great news we don't have to put up with Ebay (Sellers) ripping off Buyers any more. Just go to CarParts. for Price Match Guarantee, 90- Returns, and everything has a Lifetime Replacement. and the price is as good if not better than Ebay and they take Pay Pal. Good riddens Ebay

·3 years agoAll I asked was ----you need more than 30 days to see if it worked?
First, I know that eBay's protection is for 30 days and I wouldn't expect to be covered after eBay protection has expired, so yes, if my item or DVD player quit working after 30 days I'd be disappointed. I wouldn't get mad at eBay though.
But if it happened I'd open a case on PayPal where buyer protection is for 180 days, or I would call Square Trade if I purchased a warranty. I know the seller's warranty in the listing isn't enforceable. Manufacturers don't warranty eBay items unless the seller is a direct distributor of theirs. Or I might file a chargeback with my credit card.
Some old timers might remember this, I talked about it many years ago. In 1983 I bought a $3,000 rare parrot and the pet shop offered a 30 day warranty. The bird was so tame and sweet. I was concerned though because the bird droppings were yellow and white with mucous and my other different species parrot had green and white no mucous droppings. I called the pet store with my concern and they said not to worry, she's fine. Vet checked, they said.
On day 31 the bird died. I paid cash and was SOL.
I had a necropsy done and the results were the bird died of long standing liver disease due to antibiotic overdosing. And the main symptom was yellow mucousy droppings. Turns out the bird was not tame, just too sick to do anything like screech or climb around the cage. I thought the bird was sweet and docile because of that was her personality.
Moving along here, I lost the court case even though the necropsy report showed they sold me a sick bird. The judge said I had 30 days to take her to a vet to get checked. I told them the pet store assured me all their birds they sold were healthy and vet checked and not to worry about the droppings being yellow. It didn't matter because the judge said my bird was out of warranty when she died. Case closed. I was duped. The pet store knew the bird was sick but their defense was since I thought the bird's droppings were yellow and mucous and it concerned me I should have taken her to the vet instead of calling the pet store.
Losing $3k in 1983 is like losing $9k today. Hindsight I should've taken the bird to a vet instead of relying on the pet store telling me that. Heck, I thought if you're in the bird business then you must have knowledge about birds. Dummy me. What's bad is I bought this bird to replace a bird I paid $2,700 for that was stolen in a break-in. And I didn't learn because I got another smaller parrot a few years later. He's still alive and thriving and has a huge vocabulary. He's 38 years old and will probably outlive me! I'm still looking for a Hyacinth Macaw!
BOTTOM LINE- Don't trust the seller saying it works. Get it checked out before 30 days. Purchase a warranty if you can't check it out because seller warranties might be no good.

OP3 years agoYep it's **bleep**. I paid cash for a $17,000 truck last summer. the seller told me he would garrentee for 50,000 miles. The transfer case blew up about 250 miles later, just one of those things that you just can't see. it cost me another $4500 (Parts Labor Towing). I can count on one hand the disputes I have had on Ebay and Pay Pal has never once helped. EVERYONE IS RIGHT I DON"T HAVE TO SHOP ON EBAY AND I WON'T. IDON'T NEED THE FRUSTRATION. Sorry about your Parrot.

·3 years agoWhat you don't understand is that ebay isn't the seller and ebay doesn't have to honor manufacturers' warranties.
Even if you buy a vacuum at Lowes, they honor their (in that case) 90 day return policy but for manufacturer defects, you have to go to the manufacturer.
Had the item not worked within the 30 day time frame, you could have returned it despite the seller's return policy but like the vacuum (or snowblower, lawn mower, power drill or whatever) at Lowes, after the return period, you're either stuck or dealing with the manufacturer.
We like to blame ebay for a lot of problems and ebay does have its share of problems, but in this case, it's not ebay's problem!

Yes I do understand. But they have the responsibility to to provide warrentee contact info. And they should indicate the difference. When you buy lifetime warrentee from a parts house they take care of the exchanges. If you can't be responsible you should not be selling. You are making excuses for drop shippers who after they sell the product they could care less if it falls apart.

·3 years ago30 days is plenty of time. You install the part a day or two after you get it. You don't leave the part laying around for a month until you get a nice warm day to install the part. 30 days is plenty. If you bought the part in some auto part stores, you might have 7 days or 14 days to return.

You are Trolling, and probably never worked on a car in your life. Since it was so easy for you to solve all my problems perhaps the next time my car needs repaired and there's 2 feet of snow on the ground I'll give you a call and you can come show me how its done.

·3 years agoI remember a few times, changing out a transmission at night in the snow and rain so I had a way to work the next day.
Not a lot of fun, but it had to be done.

OP3 years agoThe key words were it had to be done so you could make it to work. I been there and done that swamped misters and differentials in the middle of nowhere 100 miles from civilization. But again key words because it had to be done. I didn't have to work in the snow I'm 63 years old and I should be able to reasonably not be pushed into having to freeze my ___ off just so a seller can't rip me off. Again what does a lifetime warrentee mean to you? Should it not also include a wrong part Sent. If you work on cars then you know that you put a new part on and 30 - 120 days it fails wouldn't you expect more from the parts dealer? I just wish people would would quit blaming the buyer for sellers lack of integrity. And Ebay makes it worse when there is no recoarse for a buyer after 30 protection period, I'm taking about the annaminity sellers have by refusing to honor their warrenties. Ebay should enforce sellers to honor their listing.

OP3 years agoMs. Rodriguez You might want to buy parts out here before making asumptions. My mechanic got my car into the shop as fast as he could. Don't accuse me of being lazy there is 24" of snow on the ground. It was rough enough when we only had 90 days. There were only two styles avaable. The seller sent a Japanese part the part I ordered was US. My Time was reasonable 2 days after. But let's go a step further, should a seller list a part as life time warrentee and not honor it. There is no recoarse, sellers can lie in their listing and if Ebay won't hold sellers accountable for their listing not even 90 days is enough. So go ahead blame buyers for sellers lack of integrity. It doesn't matter if the seller sent the wrong part it's still the wrong part, the seller is abliged to send the right part regardless. Upon visible inspection the part is identical. It was about 10mm difference which could not be measured or compared without removing the old part which disables the vehical. I am justified as this is not a piece of clothing or wrong color item.
Let me ask you a question should a seller list a part as lifetime warrentee and not honor it? I am paying for the warrentee, but if it's outside of Ebay protection the seller is not held accountable. I would think the warrentee would cover the wrong part as well regardless if I didn't find out till 2 days after Ebay protection elapsed. I think you are outside of your element here. I'm not talking about tea cups and nick naks.

It has never been my goal to displace blame. I really do want Ebay to be a safe place to shop. I think my current issue is resolved I have to take a store credit and it’s cost me an extra $750 but it’s better that a kick in the _ _ _.
No 30 days is not long enough especially for auto parts. Under favorable conditions the time to change out parts can take days It needs to be planned for in advance because it is inevitable you will get the wrong parts, if you mechanic you know this. If you take it to the shop you get charged extra for part as well as extra labor or time if your car is taking up space in the shop there are way too many variables to mention here. I don’t have a shop and needed to change a Rack and Pinion Not a problem until you are laying in 24” of snow. So I paid my mechanic, a visual inspection is not always accurate and you have no way of knowing till you are ready to install the new part (My Case). I understand this may not concern the Seller, unless they send the wrong Rack which is also my case. This is why I ordered a Rack and Pinion with a lifetime warranty. And if you read my other post you will see why this is no guarantee either. Ebay won’t look at any case that is outside of the protection perimeters. If a Seller doesn’t want to honor their warranty they don’t have to, they can ignore your request and they won’t send manufacturer info either. I believe that a Buyer should be able to have Ebay intervention in cases where Seller warrantee is beyond Ebay Protection Policy after all we are buying the warranty not just the part. I have lost over a thousand dollars over the last couple years just for this reason. And I do shop a lot of places and Ebay is just one, and I don’t need to shop here. I have spent thousands of dollars elswheres that I would normally spend on Ebay just because they don't protect me. If Buyers don’t have incentive to shop on Ebay we will go else where’s. So when you say 30 Days is enough time I would have to strongly disagree. Then why not keep the 90 day policy, unless the intent is to remove Buyer protection all together. apearantly this is where it's going. Ebay has been arround so long because of the buyer protection. I realize Sellers maty say this is an unfair advantage to the Seller . The diference is Sellers make money here and buyers spend money. If I can I’ll make this a little simpler. You said you shop here, do you shop for Xmas presents here? Do you wait till the last minute to place your orders? This would maximize your 30 day Protection. But then you are faced with holiday shipping delays. But if you shop too early that infringes on your Ebay Protection and by the time you realize the item is defective the window for Ebay Help is closed. Now you are at the mercy of the seller who now has the upper hand and does not have to make it right. I understand good sellers will go out of their way to make it right. But there was no reason to change this policy. I don’t believe Buyers should be allowed to rip off Sellers. Here is one story that happened to me O ordered about $3000 of wire that was shipped to an address 10 miles away. As fortunate enough that the resident had the common sense to look and find my Phone # and called me to pick up the wire. I’ve been out here for over 20 years 16 on my current account I’ve seen a lot I’ve lost a lot to bad Sellers where there’s a will there’s a way and Ebay made it a lot easier to be scammed. This 30 days does not help the Seller it runs off the good Buyers.

·3 years agoYes, most sellers/buyers resolve any issues. When there is no resolution ebay's idea is file a complaint with the government. Why would ANYONE think that's a way to run a business? Ebay is worse than a burglar that holds a gun on you while they steal your stuff and goes...ok we're done...call the cops. Why is Ebay worse than that because they claim to have ways to help when you get ripped off. Well, they don't and after 6 months of 'believing' ebay would do something, anything I'm learning from everyone I speak to that ebay is just like a thug taking payola from small businesses. They keep the platform up and people keep using it and paying their percentage to ebay. Well, this gig is up and I can't find one person under 40 who would touch ebay...so this platform dug it's own grave - but the CEO's don't care - they took all they could here and most likely create the new platforms and take that money and run too. We all know the first rule of business is buyer beware and in ebay's case they made the rule extend to sellers too. Not saying ebay gets full responsibility for the lack of trust people have for one another but they sure demonstrate how to pit us against one another and suggesting a government agency can solve anything proves they think we're stupid too - mocking us while taking whatever they want...as middlemen always have. . Glad to hear people dumping ebay.

I thought I was alone. I think the annaminity is the problem. I don't think buyers should be allowed to make unreasonable claims either, like using a cheap product breaking it and expecting a new one. I've learned you get what you pay for. But you should get at least what you order.
