Ebay money back guarantee not honored anymore?

I bought an item and it did not match the description, so I tried to send it back. Seller contacts me and says they do not accept returns and that I should "Google" to understand the meaning. I told him there is a thing called Ebay money back guarantee and he should Google that. So I open a return and list the reason why the description is wrong about the item, sent pictures and everything. Ebay closes the case saying the description was adequate and it doesn't fall under that protection. I'm sure most people know what carbon or carbon reinforcement looks like? What was sent to me was just plain plastic. I appealed the decision. Crazy you can't trust sellers on here as it is now you can't trust Ebay to do the right thing when you get scammed. I've bought and sold on Ebay for 15 years now and to be honest, I'm not liking the direction this company is going. I guess they are upholding the "as is" and "all sales final" with no return approach.

The only way that happens is if you habitually return items and sellers are reporting you for abusing the MBG.

You need to be explicitly clear about the timeline, what happened and what the actual wording by ebay was.

Mostly like what happened won't get you any help here as what you wrote is not how things regularly work.

The correct procedure for filing a Refund Request which you should have done is as follows:

Within 30 days from date of delivery, go to your Purchase History, find the item, and under â€œMore actionsâ€ click on â€œReturn itemâ€ and select the reason for the return. In your case - â€œdoesn't match descriptionâ€œ. Attach a photo if required.
IF your request is approved, the seller will have 3 business days to either accept the return and provide a prepaid return shipping label OR refund without having you return the item.
If they don't do either, you can go back to your Return Request details 4 business days after you filed the Request and ask Ebay to step in.

Exactly HOW did you open this return case and was it opened within 30 days of your receipt of the item?

When a buyer receives an item that's not as described, he's not required to contact the seller, nor is he required to detail how the item is NAD.

All he has to do is find the item in his Purchase History, click on "want to return" and then click on "not as described". That process opens the case.

Once that happens, the seller has 3 days to respond.

So exactly what did you do in terms of opening the case?

How did you go about filing the return request? Did you do that by clicking on the More actions button in your purchase history? I have not had to file a Not As Described dispute in a few years, but the last time I did, All I could do was select a reason for the return then file, there was no place to post photos or messages in the dispute. Those options ony appeared when an Appeal was filed.

When you filed the dispute did the seller contact you asking for photos, and you responded to them, but did nothing else for 21 days which would automatically, close the dispute.

Or, did you used the Report an issue with a seller option, which is not the same as filing a dispute.

What reason did you use?

You should have filed a "not as described" if the item doesn't match the picture and description. And it doesn't matter if the seller takes returns or not. No returns does not mean no refunds.

I'm a little confused here. On an "Item Didn't Match Description" return I've never had to explain why the description was wrong.

I'm wondering just exactly how you opened your return.

Something isn't adding up here.

You did the return through the "More Actions" drop down menu on your purchase history right? If not how?

Sorry this happened to you.

That doesn't sound right. If you filed a Return Request with a valid reason covered by the Ebay MBG, (such as "doesn't match description"), the seller would have been obligated to approve the return request and provide the prepaid return shipping label. I can't figure out why Ebay would have closed your request.

Not prying, but what was the item?
