Ebay is ruining my business and everyone else’s with autopay on auctions. ESPECIALLY WITHOUT CONSENT
Autopay is horrible on auctions. We, nor anyone we know wants to pay full shipping when bidding on many items. We as sellers don’t want it, not do we want it as buyers.

·1 year agoSame for me. No more eBay buys. I only buy a thousand items or so every year - there should be no negative impact on sellers.
Too bad eBay considers their feedback system as useless as I do. If there were a payment issue, they could easily make auto pay apply ONLY to deadbeats as identified in their feedback system. Instead they decided to cost me a lot of extra shipping costs.
While sellers may be able to turn it off. Autopay is as much a surprise to them as it is to buyers.

·2 years agoAutopay is horrible. I have stopped buying bigger stuff and even my friends. U cant use paypal 3 installment or paypal money with 4 months 0 interest. Also i use cashback sites and gets 5% back and lose on my cashback as well. Asking seller if he could turn off and it is like sellers got electrocated and bombard u with questions. No he wont turn it off and why u want him to turn it off? I hv taken my big bussiness to argos as i get good cashback and argos will treat me better as thier customer. No fuss with return as well or if faulty. They treat the buying as thieves nd liars while seller as boss bec these sellers r paying ebay. So no thank u ebay

·2 years agoI can tell you as a buyer, I ran into the message three times, and it was enough. I'm going to go elsewhere to find what I'm looking for. I just stopped by the community to see what was going on and thought I'd share a few words of what it feels like as a buyer to run into that.

·2 years agoActually, after a buyer runs into the message enough, they don't try to find the sellers who opt out anymore. Sorry, it's true. Since eBay opted ALL sellers in, and most don't even know, they won't get around to fixing their accounts in time to stop the hemorrhage of buyers. Ebay needs to turn it off now and make sellers opt IN instead.

·2 years agoThis is a bigger problem that affects more than just you. I can speak from hard-won experience that buyers are apt to shy away from the platform entirely when it gets too complicated to buy more than one 'thing' whatever it may be, from an individual seller. And now the auto-pay program is ruining the bidding experience on multi-listing engagement. I'm a record collector mainly (for the purpose here) and can say unequivocally the new system is broken and I don't enjoy the site any longer. Yes, my 45 collecting hobby was decimated by auto-pay, as the buyer side relies on efficiency of trade: mainly, stuffing a box with as many haggled over units as possible in one combined transaction. I am not going to go through 5,000 45 listings and buy 'one' record. The eBay PTB don't 'get' this; so instead they filled the soccer field with a foot of mud and the called the game 'New-and-Improved.' This also helps explain sellers complaints I've read about business being down. Well, it's because eBay is a hassle, and other platforms are easier to deal with. As a consumer this is what I feel. I gets worse: third-party shipping partners like OSM are freezing the mail stream for weeks with (my) parcels not showing up, and then there are the drop-ship grifters using fake tracking numbers to fool the system. The re-designed listing pages look ugly and I can't be the only one that pukes when one hits my eyes. Amazon and Discogs grow in direct proportion to how much eBay shrinks because of issues like these. So print this thread out and mail it to the eBay CEO with a cover explaining that the consensus is: the site re-design is killing business, viewed from both the buy and sell sides. Hope all had a good read.

·2 years agoDid it make good sense for ebay to decide to set up auto pay as a default on everyone ?
Do most buyers really like auto pay as a smoother more convenient payment system ? Will more Buyers possibly be drawn to ebay as a result ?
With auto pay can sellers expect to receive buyer payments from ebay in a much sooner time ?
Are sellers paying fvf & not reporting dead beat buyers for non payment strikes ?

·2 years agoWe all know what ebays intent was, but why punish buyers who were never part of the problem? When you **bleep** off buyers the end result will affect sellers, which we can see happening. I haven't made an offer since this auto-pay started and if they continue to go full throttle with auctions too, I'll be buying very little since that is 99% of what I buy on ebay.

·2 years agoNot so much the action as the obtuse way they just added it to seller's accounts without advising - it should have been an OPT IN, not an OPT OUT, especially with little to no communication to seller's regarding the action at all - reprehensible way to mess with some ones business.

OP2 years agoProblem resolved! We were able to get in contact with our friends hosting the auctions and they turned off the autopay. Of course plenty of others were able to get their multiple auctions in without prepaying all the shipping. They let us know that they have multiple people with 15 plus items waiting to be paid so they can combine shipping for them all. So… We were apparently in the “test group†for this, but it is baffling because we have never had an unpaid item… ever. Anyway, glad this got fixed for us, but ebay is rubbing a lot of people the wrong way with these uninformed changes. The friend/seller who just fixed the auctions let us know they are having problems with quite a few things with ebay right now and it is wasting there time and money. These guys are gigantic sellers too. i hope ebay steps it up, but we are not holding our breath. Still waiting on replies from customer service for 2 different cases that have been ongoing for OVER AN ENTIRE MONTH! Not a single follow up after having been told EVERY SINGLE TIME we would be contacted. SHEESH! Anyway, thanks for the replies everyone and have a blessed rest of your weekend!

·2 years agoI have being get offers from sellers on items I watch from sellers ,which turns off the IPR . I guess to avoid turning off the IPR ,until their listings end and for them update the listings . ebay thinks they are doing the seller favor ,when it is disrespectful .

Go into your buyer requirements and uncheck the box….Solved!

OP2 years agoSolved AFTER it cost me business, and still not solved for the sellers whom i had 20 different bids on 20 different items, which i have retracted and cannot bid on without an autopayment. They are not aware, losing bids right now, and probably won’t be back until Monday. Ebay did not inform me, nor to my knowledge anyone else. There is a plethora of posts on it now and we were not informed.

i do understand this now, but was never informed until today, by another seller… like you. Ebay did not inform me, nor anyone else. We are all unable to bid on many items until other sellers become aware of this AFTER this, supposed to be, mega buying weekend. Ebay is losing money for everyone. Totally frustrating, on top of customer service being no help at all and NEVER following up. Very angry, but not at you… Thank you for your reply and have a wonderful weekend. 😎👊

·2 years agoI've always thought auto-pay was a bad idea, but the buyer will have to pay eventually. This was instituted to stop the problem of non paying buyers. It seems to just have gotten people angry,

Problem is of course that while applying it where it is desirable/needed cannot be separated from where it is undesirable/unneeded without action by the uninformed sellers.
I opted out months ago.

With auto pay when I enter a bid, I am agreeing to pay the bid I entered for that item & the individual shipping charge specified for that item.
We're I to enter bids on multiple similar items & I contact the seller before doing so in ebay messages & my seller agrees to a combined shipping discount on multiple wins, we also agree to the shipping cost for each additional item if I become the successful bidder.
However, Seller then fails to refund the excess shipping auto pay collected.
Will ebay step in if requested, enforce & refund the shipping overpayment , based upon the understanding between seller & buyer within ebay messages ?

·2 years agoNo ebay will not step in and enforce the agreed upon over payment. They will only enforce the contract formed when the buyer committed to buy or bid on an auction which included the stated shipping cost for the items.
Even before Auto pay, ebay only enforced shipping costs stated on a listing. Depending on how the listings are set up, a seller may not be able to issue a combined shipping invoice, even if they wanted to.
Ex: a buyer buys or wins several similar size/weight items, maybe listed with different colors or accessories, that have; Buy 1 pay $6.99 shipping. Each additional will add $1.00 to the original shipping cost.
They contact the seller before buying bidding on the items, who agrees to apply the discount to the other items bought or won.
Each different listing the buyer buys from, is then billed the original $6.99 price, and the discount cannot be invoiced. If the seller refunds after the buyer pays, ebay does not credit the final value fee charged, that was automatically taken out of the shipping costs.

·2 years agoDon't forget that ebay charges a fixed fee of 0.35$ for each transaction on top of FVF. If a buyer pays for 10 items at once with a combined invoice the seller is charged 0.35$ only once, with autopay and 10 individual transactions he will be out of 3.5$ as the fee is charged for each payment. When selling low value items this is a hefty extra cost for the seller. Add to that the time lost in making refunds, this is a very costly affair.

·2 years agoIt is for high Value priced good's . but not for low priced items . The other bad is problem of doing combined shipping with total purchase's when buyer has to pay up on the Make offer with IPR. when buyer wins auctions be side's make offer's on BIN items. Ebay should not be butting in with the one size fits all policy fix ! Do to some sellers being too lazy to use the tool's to avoid none payments by use of BIN with IPR only! No make a offer in the listings if they are selling in category's that draw large number of buyers not paying .

·2 years agoEbay allows bad buyers to keep bidding. They perpetuate bad buyers by allowing them to keep bidding and then hide the bad behavior by not allowing sellers to give negative feedback for non paying bidders to warn other sellers but instead commit' a fraud by representing the buyer has a 100% positive feedback rating.
