Ebay is now allowing Sellers to give fake tracking numbers
Ebay is doing nothing more than allowing buyers to get ripped off and does NOTHING about it. They have you jump thru hoops and allow the rip offs to keep your money.

If you have proof of this, please provide us with a link that says more people are buying on Amazon because eBay won't help people with scammers. Or is this statement just what you think? Do you think Amazon doesn't have scammers? Every online venue has scammers of some sort or another.

·1 year agoI really wish we could have a good explanation of the fake tracking scam and how to get your money back pinned to the top of this board. That way we could point victims at that post and not reinvent the wheel weekly.

·1 year agoYou do realize you can do the same to the fake tracking seller. Just saying. Item not as described, since it was sent to another address in same zip code you can’t verify it as you are missing all the pieces, now you are forcing fake tracking seller to either issue you a return label which I doubt they will do, or just refund you automatically.

·1 year agoAs a seller yourself we(myself included) have to check a seller's feedback page and how' new' they are and where they are listed from.
We have to get a feel if this seller will be honest.
And if the price is too good to be true it usually is and that is a 'red flag'.
I tend to purchase from the same sellers over and over.
I would never make a purchase from a seller with a lot of negative feedbacks or is a new seller.
That's just me...if it's a cheapo item under 10 bucks I might buy it but not if it's expensive.
It is a hassle to get your refund back...and it's not in that timely manner we all wish.

This is nothing new. It has been going on for years here. Here is a post from the other day from a victim of the same thing. Some options for you to get your money back are outlined in message #6. Don't do them all at once, and get over the idea of "item not received" as it does not work in this situation. The system is run by bots, and the best defense eBay has in this is DENIAL in hopes you go away.
Indeed everyone is sorry for your issue, but after 15 years of hearing about it it is tough for the responders to give a lengthily explanation of what is going on, or what can be done about it day after day (often more than once). Whatever path you choose, do come back and let us know how it works out, so we can inform others. The process is everchanging.

·1 year agoPeople often try to do things whether it is actually "allowed" or not. How could eBay make it impossible for someone to intentionally provide the wrong tracking number?
If tracking shows delivery, but nothing arrives, contact the shipping service to determine if the tracking corresponds to a delivery to your address.
If you can obtain hard copy documentation that the tracking does not correspond to a delivery to your address, contact eBay via social media and explain that you have a case of "false tracking" and you should be given the opportunity to provide your documentation to eBay via direct message. This is different than the usual "item not received" case which is handled automatically and which allows the seller to win by providing tracking that shows delivery.

You can avoid many issues entirely by choosing to only do business with experienced sellers that have a proven track record of delivering similar items as seen by examining the seller's feedback page, and by avoiding inexperienced sellers, sellers with patterns of negative feedback indicating serious problems, or sellers with large gaps in the selling history or recent drastic changes of seller behavior.

OP1 year agoBuddy, you need to educate yourself on this matter before you try and explain what you apparently know nothing about!!!
That number shows it was delivered to my address BUT pay attention to the BUT, when I called Fed Ex they told me straight up it does not have my address or my name and cannot provide me with anything but what they told me.
So PLEASE if you are so informed tell me how I can get paperwork from the shipper if I'm not the shipper???
Don't give your If , If, opinions of something you think you know about but apparently do not.

The tracking number shows the delivery was made to the address on the package. You do understand that the address on the package may not be yours.
If you want to pursue a false tracking case with eBay you need to get FedEx to provide documentation of that fact. You do not need the actual address it was delivered to which FedEx will not provide for privacy reasons, but you just need something on FedEx letterhead that says "this tracking number does not correspond to [your shipping address]" or something else such as the weight or date of shipment that shows it is not what you ordered.
It may help to go to FedEx in person with a copy of your order details showing both your shipping address and the tracking number you received from the seller.
Others have done this and gotten refunded.

·7 months agoOthers have done this with FedEx? My experience with FedEx is that they will not do anything for the recipient. They are a terrible company to try to deal with, full of people that do not care about you at all, like eBay customer service. FedEx will ONLY do something about a delivery at the senders request. It is there out, they know that most senders will not mess with it. A Fedex driver can throw your package into a road ditch, take a pic of it, and the people within FedEx will never do anything.

IT IS NOT YOUR PACKAGE. Since you did not pay to have that package shipped to you, you should not expect to get any customer service asking about it.

It's not necessary to be rude and confrontational.
You say (see red above) that it shows as delivered to your address, but that's NOT what it shows. What shows in a fake/invalid tracking scam is delivery to your zip code!

Wow is all I can say.
Can somebody do their job and show me that it was delivered as it was not.
The tracking shows it was delivered to my address because it's fake!!!!
I contacted Fed Ex as you stated with that tracking number and it does not have my name or address on it.
Can somebody there do that so I'm not getting screwed out of 44.00.
Now the seller just sent me info to check a USPS tracking number.
Why is that??? He gave me a Fed ex tracking number.
They are trying to rip me off for my 44.00
You people simply dismiss this like its no big deal but as a 29 year seller on here I can tell you it is.
simply have somebody call Fed Ex and ask them if this package was delivered to my address and they will tell you NO.
I again have wasted so much time trying to get what belongs to me and you people simply dismiss it because they sent you a tracking number that is a scam number.
How is it that I can call Fed ex and get a simple answer but nobody from eBay will do anything to help this situation???
eBay should have direct contact with Fed-ex so they can stop problems like this from happening.
It would be so easy for you to be able to end a situation clearly.
Is it possible for you to call me?? this really is a scam that needs to be addressed.

If you think you are talking to eBay (the company or its employees), you are mistaken. You have posted your multiple rants on a discussion board that is made up of buyers and sellers like yourself.
I know you are upset and usually people here are willing to offer advice but when you post in all caps, that is considered screaming and when you demean people by inferring that people here do not have an education level or are unable to comprehend what you are saying, a lot of people here may not be too willing to help.

If eBay simply had direct contacts with all the shipping companies (WHICH THEY SHOULD) They could simply call and get the same info I did that that tracking number does not go to my address or has my name on it.
They don't want to, and you seem like the type that's trying to protect eBays reputation and if so, just simply have them call FED Ex and give them my tracking number?? they will tell them what they told me. Not your name on the package or your address. eBay is now a SCAM SITE that they allow to happen.
I'm spreading the word for MANY to know that Ebay is now backing Scam Tracking numbers and doing nothing about it.

·1 year agoAs long as it's been going on, you would think Ebay would have a way to deal with it, but they don't.
Have FedEx send you a letter stating the package was not addressed to you.
File and INAD and if the seller accepts the return and pays return shipping, send them a copy of the letter from FedEx.
If they don't accept it, return to the case on day 4 and ask Ebay to step in for a refund.

eBay has 18 Million sellers selling almost 2 Billion items on any given day. Do you honestly think they have the time and manpower to "call FedEx" on your or anyone else's behalf. Nope.
No, I'm not trying to protect eBay's reputation. I don't like the way they do a lot of things but it's their site so I adapt and put up with. It's a scammer's world out there and IMHO, it's going to get worse.
FWIW, eBay isn't the only venue that has problems. Every venue including resale venues, big box stores, department stores, you name it, has scamming going on, both on line and B&M stores.

·1 year agoThe buyer was given a fake tracking number in order to denied a cancelation and when you report this to EBAY, they don't do nothing or delay the processes , that's the problem and i rely thinking about cancel my EBAY account

It is not enough to simply claim false tracking, the buyer needs to provide some sort of documentation to dispute the (false) documentation the seller has provided.
The seller has something (false tracking) that shows something was delivered; the buyer needs to show eBay something that disputes that beyond simply saying "I did not get it". A note on the shipping service letterhead that says the tracking number does not correspond to the buyer's shipping address is one sort of documentation. Something that shows the tracking number was obtained before the order was made, or that the shipping weight is wildly different than the item supposedly shipped is another.
Anyone can say "I did not get it". If that was all it took to dispute a tracking number that showed delivery, anyone could get a refund for any eBay purchase by simply claiming "I did not get it", even if the item was actually delivered.

No one from here will call and contacting CS doesn't do much good.

The ‘Fake tracking number scam’ isn’t limited to one selling venue or to one shipping company. I’ve had it happen to me on Amazon, Walmart, and eBay … using USPS, FedEx, and UPS.
I don’t believe the scam is as easy to stop as you do … but I do believe that eBay could make it easier for buyers to get refunded after being victimized by this scam.
In the meantime, I recommend that buyers request a chargeback from the Fraud Department of their credit card company … AFTER being told by the shipping company that their name and address was not on the package associated with the tracking number they were given.
I personally was able to get statements from ALL THREE shipping companies the times I was scammed. I had to pick it up at my local post office, while FedEx and UPS attached the statements to an email to me. [I understand they may be more difficult to get now.]
I don’t believe the statements are necessary if you deal with your CC company’s Fraud Department … since they are able to phone shipping companies themselves. I don’t think most selling venues are able to take that step currently … not just eBay.
