Ebay won't allow you to use more than 4 $25.00 Ebay gift cards. I for one am going to try to use any other online shopping other than Ebay. Ebay Sucks

·3 years agoIt's not like you can 'go anywhere else' until you 'spend' those cards. Why would you have so many in the first place??

I do not know about the original poster, but in the past I have heard of stores that run promotions where, for every $100 spent, the user earns $5 toward a gift card of the user's choice. Users that take advantage of such promotions can wind up with a collection of small denomination gift cards.

While you’re certainly free to shop wherever you wish … you can only use your eBay gift cards on eBay.

·3 years agoIt you have a credit card, just skip the gift cards. You also will have better purchase protection.

·3 years agoThis is probably pretty standard because frankly it looks fishy to try and cash out a bunch of low-level gift cards at one time, it might look like the cards (or numbers) were stolen.
It's just for security. It's online and sight-unseen. If it were a local store wouldn't the cashier think it odd that you had a lot of "small bills" to unload at once?
Not saying that's what you're doing, it's just odd. Why so many small gift cards at once?

·3 years agoYeah, it's a fraud prevention measure. It's the same reason we limit the number of gift cards you can purchase at one time in the physical store at my B&M job.

My birthday and Mother's Day both fall in May. Standard gifts from family members are usually gift cards, most always in smaller denominations. So those are suspect?
Aswell, have been known to pay for purchases between $25-40 with one dollar bills because I usually tip in cash, so just have them handy. That's suspicious also?

OP3 years agoI wanted a larger denomination card but the store I went to only had $25.00 so not knowing you couldn't use more than 4 at a time I bought them. I feel kind of screwed by Ebay and probably will change where I purchase after this.

You can save time and trouble by buying ebay gift cards with larger denominations on them. I believe the max amount allowed is $250 per card. Keep in mind that you may not always be able to use a gift card the same day you bought it. That is because the card will not activate until the store you purchase the card sends the purchase info to their bank. Most big chain stores do that twice a day, and some may not send the info to their bank after a certain evening hour, 5:00 pm for example.

·3 years agoMost stores will only allow you to use 4-5 gift cards per online transaction. My B&M job only allows 5 gift cards to be used on a single online order, for example, and Walmart also only allows 4.

OP3 years agoIf you can only use 4 per purchase it should say that on the packaging, and yes I did look. I called customer service and they wouldn't help me out in any way so I guess it's fool me once shame on them fool my twice shame on me! I'm not giving Ebay a second chance!

I'm really sorry this happened ... but nobody 'fooled you'.
I guess you will have to give away the gift cards if you leave eBay, since you can't return them to the store ... NOR use them on another site.
[I frankly don't understand why anyone would purchase gift cards to buy on eBay ... rather than pay with a credit card where you have buyer protection.]

·3 years agoMy impression, from similar remarks here, is that possibly not everyone has credit cards for whatever reason.

·3 years agoYeah ... I guess so. It just sounds risky to use them for expensive purchases ... especially if you're not familiar with eBay time lines and what to do if there's a problem.
