Ebay doesn't care about counterfeiting/forgery
This website is over run with resin recast and 3d prints of copyrighted miniatures. This is flagrant IP infringement. Reported multiple clearly (non-primed, shiny, print lines and resin gate holes all over) resin prints of models only made in plastic only to be told AI reviewed them and found them to not be faked.

How do YOU think eBay should handle this type of situation? What, specifically, do you think should be done and how do you think it would be possible to get the situation handled? Do you believe that eBay should take the word of anyone claiming that something isn't "real" or how do you think this should be verified?
Would it be possible to do your suggestions on a daily basis, for forever. With the thousands of categories on eBay, could your suggestions apply to all of them? You have to remember that there are 18 Million sellers on eBay, selling almost 2 Billion items and these listings change daily.

·10 months agoEbay is counterfeit city. It didn't used to be this way I've been with them for 25 years. You have "strongarm" them through Paypal resolution center. I always get a refund within days. So far I've gotten all my money back from those sellers

·10 months agoStrongarm them? LOL. I've never had to go to that extreme or through PayPal either. I use PayPal but never have had to file a dispute through them.
I just filed through eBay and sent the item back for a refund. Not fun and a pain in the butt but all automated and fairly easy.......................

·10 months agoThere's absolutely no need to strongarm anything through Paypal. If you open an item not as described return through eBay within 30 days of receipt (the same timeframe as Paypal) you'll be refunded. And unlike Paypal eBay requires the seller, not the buyer, to pay return postage.

·10 months agoEbay agents are not experts. You as the buyer have a 30 day money back guarantee so if there is an issue you can return the item. You can report the item to Ebay but don't expect much. You can complain all you want here but nothing will change other than the way things are right now. Nobody here can make things change that's on Ebay.

Ebay acts on Not As Described Claims by buyers when they reach a secret threshold.
Ebay does not act on hearsay or malicious reports by buyers or sellers.

OP10 months agoIf I were to sell the geniuine item it WOULD effect the price. Everyone wants to make excuses for the counterfeiters because stricter policies would be burdensome. Exclusivity means nothing when counterfeiters are allowed to be the Sponsored item, listing it before every other product it is illegally undercutting.
This is specifically concerning lack of effort. The items I am refering too are Games Workshop models that are only available in grey plastic. The sponsored items will be shiny, white resin prints. They are not making sure this automated process has any validity whatsoever. It says it can identify counterfeits when all it really does is makes sure the images match.

·10 months agoPlease stop making up stuff @ry-136808. Nobody here has made excuses for counterfeiters nor for eBay. We merely have described the reality of buying on eBay ... and, actually, on any other selling venue that includes 3rd-party sellers.
We have pointed out the necessity of buyers being aware of what they are buying ... and to NOT assume that eBay is protecting them from scammers prior to purchasing. eBay cannot do that.
Buyers need to read and understand eBay's Money Back Guarantee so that they know the procedures and deadlines for filing a claim in case they become a victim of a counterfeiter.

People complain about all manner of things being counterfeit on ebay - and in many cases they're right.
But rest assured, ebay will not take your word or mine as gospel in that regard. Ebay has neither the personnel nor the expertise to police these endless categories. What does get their attention is when enough INAD (item not as described/doesn't match description) cases are opened against a given seller.
In those situations, that seller ends up with a restricted or terminated account, and they're done on this site.
As has been true for centuries, long before the internet, Caveat Emptor.

The main support that eBay can provide a buyer is AFTER they’ve received a fake item. The buyer practically ALWAYS wins an ‘Item not as described’ claim.
Saying that eBay ‘doesn’t care’ is misunderstanding what eBay has promised to do. If you want certainty that an item is legitimate … then you can’t buy it on a website of 3rd party sellers.

OP10 months agoSounds like a legally sufficient excuse to get out of liability. Do better, you're AI tools are clearly not good enough. I stand by my statement.
Some of these sellers are selling dozens of models at less than 20% of the price of the real models. They sell exclusivity fake models and just because some buyers are OK owning counterfeits doesn't make it OK.

I have no idea what you’re talking about. I’m a buyer who volunteers helping fellow members … not eBay.
eBay doesn’t sell anything itself … and stresses that sellers are responsible for the content of their listings. eBay provides a Money Back Guarantee that assists buyers to get refunds when a purchased item turns out to be ‘not as described’.
Nobody from eBay is here to read your post … if that was your purpose.

So it seems you're too smart not to buy them at that price, correct?
You are not responsible for protecting other buyers. They are.
Nobody like seeing fakes for sale but they're everywhere in all venues.
Take a deep breath and just move on and be glad you are smart enough to spot them................

Selling low priced copies of the real deal is allowed, so long the seller doesn't pretend it's the real deal.
Sometimes the IP Owner may want those removed, and they can notify ebay of their intention via the DMCA or VERO, however that is up to individual IP Owners.

But still better than nothing. Can you imagine how many real people eBay would need just to answer the questions on this forum? Or even a small percentage of their worldwide members?
I don't like AI either. I compare it to talking with a toddler that is just learning how to think and talk about what s/he is thinking about. Those conversations are sometimes very funny, and so is talking to the current version of AI.
AI already knows how to defend itself and it will grow up and get better ... as will the toddler. Soon, AI will be teaching other AI, and then Skynet!
So hang in there - I have a good feeling that the AI we have to deal with at eBay today will soon be seamless and will be able to solve/satisfy most of the problems discussed here.
