EBAY DEMANDS I GIVE ADDRESS/PHONE FIRST BEFORE I CAN CONTACT A SELLER . . .
It’s been years since I was on eBay, to the point I couldn’t even remember what e-mail address I used to set up acct. So tonight I created new acct. rather than come in as guest. I read eBay’s tutorial on how to contact Seller and page said nothing about being referred to eBay FIRST, demanding personal info. I don’t remember this happening years ago . . . I don’t feel comfortable giving this info out. Is this something new w/eBay? (I tried to ask through eBay chat box C/S but person just kept typing things like, “I’ll be glad to help out,†and variations thereof, and then never DID, and I just knew I wouldn’t get help, and exited chat. That’s what brought me here, to the “community.â€)
TIA for anyone kind enough to assist me w/any possible answers.

·2 years agoThat's definitely it. And it's technically not double verifying if they don't have the information. 🙂
You also need to be aware that you're going to have the same transaction limits as any other brand new buyer, particularly if your account profile isn't complete.

Haaaaaaa . . . Good one! 👠I stand corrected and revise: “They want to attempt to double verify me?†(😬)
Thanks so much again! 🙠(And hope your “New Year†is awesomely spectacular !! 🫡 )

·2 years agoI ask sellers questions a few times a year, and I don't remember ever being asked for that information. Are all the contact information and various addresses complete in your new account setup?

OP2 years agoOh (gulp!) no. I didn’t get that far. So maybe that’s it? They want to ‘double’ verify me?
(sigh . . .)
Hey, thanks so much for taking the time to assist. (Really appreciate that! 😠🫂)

·2 years agoWhy would you need to contact a seller if you havent been on here in a year?
If there is an item you have questions on you can message the seller from the item.
I have been on here for many years and never took anything off eBAy.

OP2 years agoAs I kept trying to tell the C/S chat box person: I want to contact Seller b/c I have questions about the listing and would like to converse before I (possibly) purchase. (I wrote that at least 3 times to the C/S rep. and am bummed I will have to get up and go into another room of house in order to PHONE a C/S rep. and see if I can get help that way.)
This should not be, having to give out home address and phone # to eBay first, and I think it’s quite bizarre. (As a possible explanation, I’m wondering if it’s doing this b/c I have many windows open on iPad?) Again, eBay’s tutorial (and now you, too,) are advising me to simply click on “Contact Seller.†But again, it whips me over to a new page, requesting those 2 items above.
