eBay current practices regarding irresponsible sellers
Summary: telanet expressed frustration with an eBay seller who advertised a set of four items but only sent one, ignoring multiple messages. They suspect this is a repeated issue, as other buyers have reported similar experiences. They criticized eBay's automated response system, which sends irrelevant updates rather than addressing the complaint. albertabrightalberta suggested that the issue might be with the type of claim filed and advised choosing 'not as described' for missing parts. telanet replied, noting that their orders page indicates they cannot start a return. Another participant, 44012, suggested closing the current case to start a new one. yo0339 provided further guidance on handling the return process, noting the pitfalls of eBay's return options.
An eBay seller selling a set consisting of four items, sent one of the four to me. He ignored both of the messages I sent. Then I found that the seller has repeatedly mishandled his orders in the same way. Several other eBay buyers have complained of the same problem. Apparently it's the seller's standard business practice to advertise a set of four and to send one. I requested a refund due to his total disregard of eBay rules and ignoring my messages.
So far eBay's response is to send me a succession of email notices every few hours reading "Shipping information has been updated for your item." (Four identical messages sent one at a time, every few hours.) There was and is nothing amiss with my shipping information. There is (and was) something amiss with an eBay system which fails to address multiple complaints about a seller's bad business practices like false advertising and failure to respond to buyer's messages and, instead, sends emails containing notices with irrelevant information, indicating that the poor seller's excuse for his failures relates to erroneous shipping info.
My primary question is what is preventing a more reasonable response from eBay?
eBay used to handle multiple reports of an irresponsible seller with reassurance to buyers of refunds and prompt action to address bad seller behavior. Is AI responsible? What options are available to buyers who request refunds from irresponsible sellers content to habitually rip off their eBay buyers and mislead eBay Customer Service personnel with claims that the problem can be resolved by sending a series of "shipping information has been updated" messages?

·6 days ago · EditedThat's your seller re-updating their tracking number @telanet every few hours, then eBay notifies you that "Shipping information has been updated for your item."
After you close your Refund Request for the missing 3 items:
Go back to click RETURN THIS ITEM. When you do, you'll find that eBay now uses Alisyn to thwart return requests.
You will want to start your return request for the MISSING PARTS OR PIECES reason, because you are missing 3 of the 4 items, but Alba does not have that reason, showing you Not as described, Defective, etc. only.
So you need to ignore the questions Alix asks, to type MISSING PARTS OR PIECES as an answer instead, to switch your return request to that reason:
This is a trap: If you allow Alva to pick a remorse return reason, you may have to pay for the return label if your seller swings that way to require a return of the 1 item you received, to get your refund. Rather, your seller should pay for that return label.
Please come back and let us know.

It sounds like you're not submitting the proper type of claim.
If you ordered a "set of 4" and didn't receive a "set of 4," you claim is for NAD (not as described) and stating that it's missing pieces.
It sounds like you're either just sending messages or that you're claiming that you didn't receive it. But with tracking, ebay assumes receipt.
Go to your orders page and click to return it, choosing NAD.
Seller has 2 options:
seller has to issue a refund without requiring you to return it
seller has to purchase and pay for a return shipping label and after receipt of the return, he has to issue a full refund.

OP1 week agoMy orders page displays the following:
"You can't start a return for this item. You have already opened an eBay Money Back Guarantee case for this item. The seller added new tracking info."
Although I will comply with eBay's instruction, it's incorrect and a disappointing dodge for the seller or anyone else to claim that there was any new tracking info to add. It also doesn't address the problem of a misguided seller tho repeatedly cheats his eBay buyers.

·1 week agoI believe you would have to close the item not received in order to start a not as described with missing parts or pieces.
