Ebay automatically paid my winning item without my permission?
this never has happened to me before and I didn’t not get any notice in email nor did I ever signed up or agreed to have automatic payment option on buying.
When I buy or bid and win an item, I always get an email from ebay saying I won or please pay for your item within 3 days so on….and I always click and pay within an hour for all of my purchases on ebay but this happened last night.
I bid on items…3 gemstones before I went to bed….I guess I won all 3 stones…
I wake up and check my emails and I got 3 email notice from ebay …
purchased….
So I went on my ebay account and saw, “we made automatic payment for your purchase ending ####
ebay made a payment for my winning…and I try everything and look for everywhere to stop this but none.
I do not want ebay to make automatic payment on my behalf without my permission.
again, there was no notice or email about this nor I click Yes on auto pay…none.
I am calling ebay after the holiday but to see anyone had this experience and if YES please is there to stop this?
thank you and you all have a wonderful Christmas 😊

·3 years agoThis just happened to me and I couldn't find the solution in this thread.
Any ideas?
I won an auction and did not pay because I am bidding on a 2nd auction of the same seller.
Today I won the 2nd auction and got a paypal notice that it was auto-paid. WHAT ?
The first auction is still unpaid: https://www.ebay.com/itm/195843716804
Second auction was autopaid: https://www.ebay.com/itm/195853419236
Both were auctions, not buy-it-nows.
My preferred payment is paypal, but I have always gotten the email reminder to pay, never an auto pay.

·3 years agoThe problem is ebay has made it impossible to ever talk to them no matter what number you called. You cannot email them either they force you to go to a pre answered problem sight. They have made themselves impossible to communicate with.

·3 years agoI'd volunteer to do some testing on this process, but I'm afraid if I detach my payment method, there'll be some bizarre glitch that prohibits me from restoring it, thereby barring me from ever purchasing on eBay again! LOL!

·3 years agoI just went to eBay community because the exact same thing just happened to me when I purchased a pair of jeans by making an offer. In 18 years, I have never had eBay automatically charge my credit card for anything. I have a credit card stored, but like you said, you get an acceptance from the seller, a request to pay for your item and then I go in and do it. Were you able to find out why this occurred? Very disconcerting and I don’t like it one bit. Thanks.

·3 years agoI do not keep any CC info in my profile for this reason.
The phrase " subject to change without notice" is a key phrase that is wise to heed... Terms change without warning at times, and as we agree to use these services, we voluntarily/ involuntarily submit to whatever the current terms are.

·3 years agoWhat payment method do you have on file, then? Do you make all your purchases as a guest? I thought eBay required buying accounts to have a payment source associated with their account.

·3 years agoI use a CC while making my BIN purchase. I enter the info, then " turn off" the " save for future purchase" option each time. I don't make offers, and haven't done auctions for a while, so it works out fine.
If I did auctions, or asked/ made offers, THEN it would probably not work as well.

·3 years agoI don't have any payment method attached to my eBay account. I've only paid with PayPal on eBay, which appears to still be attached to my eBay account.
I can't recall the last time I made an offer ... just remember accepting one from a seller ... and I haven't yet had to supply any payment info to eBay. I definitely wouldn't like being forced to skip PayPal in order to make an offer.

·3 years agoI don't understand your reply.
Are you saying PayPal is not the payment method attached to your eBay account, or it is the payment method attached to your eBay account? You seem to be saying both of those things.

·3 years ago@pburn
You’re right … but both things appear to be true.
When I look at Payment under ‘Account’ … it invites me to attach a payment method. [It doesn’t show any payment sources.] But there still is a ‘link’ to PayPal after I’ve purchased something … as if my PayPal account is still attached to my eBay account as it’s been for many years.
So I guess I really don’t know the meaning of the word ‘attached’ at this point … like whether eBay considers that I have my PP account attached because it is providing me a link to it at Checkout. 🤔

·3 years agoMaybe it's not "attached" because you would need to log in ? So it wouldn't be a source eBay could just charge?

·3 years agoOn the other hand, why would you not want it paid right away? It can be shipped to you faster.

·3 years agoAlso what if you wanted to use a different payment method? It should be your choice, not ebays.

·3 years agoWith the best offer when you agree to payment to be authorized it's been showing my husband the chance to select which payment method to authorize when the offer is accepted

OP3 years agoYes it was best Offer option and seller accepted all 3 items.
but there are nothing say it was immediate payment nor automatic payment needed nor I agreed to do so.
my payment option is always PayPal but ebay do not allow it.
plus, I bought an item from this very same seller, 4 days a go with best offer and seller accepted and I got an invoice mail from ebay saying…congratulations seller accepted your offer and pay now to get your item so on…
so why now?
like I said, I made an offer a lot and accepted by seller most of the time and neve4 has happened and again…I made an offer from this very same seller just days earlier and I-made a payment not ebay.
I went in to my account and there are nothing there that I allow this nor is there option to take it off this auto pay thing.
PS: I never wait to pay for an item for few days.
I always pay immediately right after I win unless I send an offer or bid on an item late at night and I went to bed

·3 years agoThis just happened to me and I did not make a BEST OFFER. All I did was make an offer, there was nothing that said OH BTW YOU HAVE TO PAY IMMEDIATELY. so they did this without my permission.
